My First Paint Can

I made my first paint can for my DD and SIL for their wedding. Thanks for all the advice on adhesives. I elected to use magic mesh sticky tape to adhere it to the can. It seemed to work really well. It's in my misc album.

That's really pretty!! May I ask what you put in it? Always in need of good ideas!

I put a copy of the invitation and reply card, a leftover silk flower & some tule and ribbon from the wedding decorations, empty bubble container; the guest book was bought and sized to fit in the can as well. At the reception we had cards (and my scrapbook pens) on the table for people to write well wishes to the bride and groom and they went into the can as well. Eventually the cake topper will also make it to the can. My DD didn't want to take it yet, and asked that it be put back into the corner cabinet at my house. She used the same cake topper that was used on my cake and my greatgrandmothers cake in 1901. My DD and new SIL wrote each other a letter about their feelings of the wedding day which were also placed in the can. I guess when you think about it , it is sort of a time capsule. Sandy

What you really had that planned out. What a great way to keep all those precious momentos.

Wow, WHat a greaat idea. That will be a great keepsake for them as a memory of the best parts of the day. Sounds like it was well thought out too. Interesting history of the cake topper as well. The can is beautiful.

I've wanted to try one for sometime and just never got the nerve to take it on. After this one I think I will do more. I can see Christmas gifts, teacher's gifts, birthday memory cans, etc. I'm glad you liked it. Oh, the scraproom will probably not look that clean again for some time. It was a very rare occasion, so I thought I'd better get a pic now. Sandy

I love that about the topper! My DD, also named Laura, got married a year and a half ago and wore the same pearls I wore when I got married, which currently belong to my mother. Where did you get the empty paint can to use? It turned out beautifully!

Thanks, Marcie! I'm thinging about adding pics of the ancestors with names on the back to the bottlecap family tree tin. It might be a way to teach the kids about grand, great-grand and gggrandparents too. One of my older DD's is pretty good with the names and surnames, but she was the one that went with me on research trips. I do a heritage badge with Junior GS (4-6 grades) and I am amazed at the number of children who do not know the name of their grandparents and great-grandparents. Sandy

That is such a neat idea. I've seen the altered paint cans before, but I didn't know what was put in them. 25 years down the road it will be so neat for them to go back and look in there. My husband never wrote me letters. I'm sure he never will.
