Scrapbooking Services

Just got off the phone with my uncle (it was his wife I made the beach trip album for last month) & he was strongly suggesting that I go into business making scrapbooks or albums for others (something I've considered, but not looked into seriously as of yet) & to start by seeing what others in the field are doing. I've looked in the past & will head off now to see what I can find via google, but does can any of you point me in the direction of websites you've seen where folks offer the service of making a scrapbook or album for others (either traditional or digital -- I do the latter) for a fee?

Don't know if any of the scrapbooking magazines have a section for folks to advertise that they'll create traditional or digital scrapbooks for a fee since I rarely buy magazines of any kind. If you've seen ads like that & can either share the info or tell me which magazine to look for, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any leads, personal experiences, advice, etc.

Alicia,

I have a great resource for you. I belong to a newsgroup for just that and they're very helpful and wonderful, eager to help each other... much like this group actually, those based on Scrapping For Others. People who have been in the business for a while as well as those just starting out or thinking about it. Here is the link:

Check out ebay--I know several people who make page layouts and albums and they make a killing there!!

Here's some examples I found:

The latest 2 (2 of the best IMNSHO ) aren't up yet. I'm limited in which pages I can post since I have a policy of not putting pics of living people on the web w/o their permission (& personal identifying info removed). I need to select pages from my latest album (a beach trip this summer) & see about getting permission to post those pages. Will post something here when I do. Thanks again for the newsgroup link!

Thanks for the links, Carolyne!

Wow, as much as $26.99 for a single 12x12 layout & $129.99 for the book! Actually, tho I did an initial in response to the price of the book, when you think of the time it must've taken, the price really isn't that bad.

The downside of being a digital scrapper & trying to sell layouts is that traditional scrappers (seems to be the bulk of the market) might not be interested. On the positive side, with digtial I could sell the same layout more than once with the amount of work. The challeng would be how to get it to people who don't have any graphics software or photoshop so they could add their own photo (w/o printing the "background" & adding a print of their photo on top of it). Thats were selling direct (locally) as opposed to someplace like ebay would come in handy, as I they could pick out the premade layout, give me their pics (digital or to scan) & I could add them, giving them back the finished product on CD.

Hmmm. Thinks to think about. (All thoughts & suggestions welcome. )

I don't think you're talking about me. Fonts used for what?

Regarding my poorly worded sentence, Melissa asked:

Yes, you; sort of. You kindly pointed me in the direction of the Yahoo group Scrapping4Others. I browsed a few posts there earlier & saw one apparently needs to read the licensing agreement with each font used to see if permission needs to be gained from the creator of the font if it's to be used "commercially" (i.e., on anything for sale). Make any more sense? You, personally, didn't mention an issue with fonts, I just read it on the Yahoo newsgroup.

I belong to that group too. Take a moment to browse through the files in the group. There are all sorts of good things there, sample adds, sample contracts and so forth.
