9/11, sewing, and off topic thoughts

I know a number of people who need to be reminded of that -- Jesse Jackson is the first one who comes to mind.

Do you have proof of this, or do we just have to believe it because you said so? Certainly there must be something on the web that will support this assertion.

Now, this is in Canada, right?

I'd still rather vote absentee and have my vote exist, than to vote on a computer and have it mysteriously dissapear.

Oh, but these things NEVER happened! I don't care if you see it with your own eyes, "they" will always call you a liar. I don't care if it happened to you personally and you have pictures to prove it. "They" will dig up information about your great grandfather that proves that you come from a long line of liars. Or else, they will just say that the same thing happened to them under the Clinton administration. They will use that one for generations to come.

Cindy > feh. You can't change their minds. There is no sense in trying to reason with someone who's mind is so closed, that the key was lost years ago.

Not that I expect this to make one iota of difference to you:

She said she was so upset she couldn't even see straight because I said what I said, because she's a military wife. I can't see how that can be interpreted as anything other than her attack on my patriotism and her denial of my supportiveness of our troops.

Oh really? Would you have us believe that she just happened to drop in here to randomly express opinions about nothing? That's nonsense. She very clearly replied to my posting, and she very clearly told me to go talk to the terrorists myself if I don't support Mr. Bush. (A move that she clearly knows would get me killed.) It's entirely, utterly clear that she was attacking me and attempting to claim that I am opposed to fighting terrorism... indeed, she may have been indirectly suggesting that I should be killed if I don't support Mr. Bush.

Yes, she did. And as her opinions include that I should go get myself killed for not supporting her political candidate, it's *my* opinion that she can go to hell. After all, I ONLY expressed MY opinions too, and could therefore hardly be deserving of her vitriol.

That's true. She does. I've made no attempt to stop her. She can go right on expressing her opinions. And I have every right to go on expressing the opinion that she's a damn fool who spouts hatred at those who oppose her politics without considering the implications of her actions.

Hey Pal, Like all your ilk, you wish to not be accountable to the rules of the masses. You posted off topic a very controversial subject that is specifically mentioned to be private. god forbid someone should disagree with your side. Thanks Wanda for speaking up. The only thing that is appropriate here is sewing, anything else is open season. I do not agree with you Tom, what you said was (un)veiled solicitationfor votes which sure got me turned in. I don't see how your post is any different, you are asking for something. I don't ask that you be turnedc in by the anal retentive, but rather KEEP IT ON TOPIC unless you WANT us to discuss the speciousness of your argument. SHUT UP AND SEW

Michelle Italy Who keeps her vote and thoughts to herself (the reason there are curtains in your voting stations)

Or there's the Oregon solution: we don't have polling places. All of us vote by something similar to "absentee ballots". We have a rather thick newsprint voter's guide that lists full text of all the ballot measures, has information about the candidates, etc., etc. that comes before the ballots do. It's quite nice to be able to read and research thoroughly ahead of time, mark your ballot at leisure, and return it.

Takes a few extra days before we know the final vote count, but I can wait.

That last article includes some of the text of the oath: "I, (full name) . . . do herby (sic) endorse George W. Bush for reelection of the United States." It also includes: "In signing the above endorsement you are consenting to use and release of your name by Bush-Cheney as an endorser of President Bush."

I think next time you want to ask someone for more information, you may want to try being a bit more polite about it, and simply ask for more information instead of phrasing it as a demand for proof. You'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. I.E.Z. is not deserving of your accusatory tone.

Yes, he did, and he was. Rev. Jackson has in fact called off some of his international missions because of that. I believe in one case he actually received authorization from the state department making him a temporary ambassador, although I'd have to check on that last.

Yes, Pat, I agree--PLEASE GET BACK TO SEWING, I have just deleted the entire thread on 9/11 except this one post without reading a single one of the others. Why? I do not like discussing politics and religion. A good reason is about half my family are die-hard Democrats and the others are staunch Republicans. My DGF was a Baptist minister, one brother is a deacon in the Baptist church and the other one, who died, was a wonderful Catholic priest, so the family is split several ways on religion, too. Nobody discusses either, leaving everybody happy. To each his own. After all, we have a brain and presumably know how to use it. This is a wonderful international group, so if we stay on the subject of sewing, we can be one happy family. Emily

I feel deeply, personally offended by your post. How dare you trivialize our post-9/11 horror with political diatribe?

I do not agree with you, as is my right.

I suggest you ask that question of Mr. Bush, who made 9/11 the centerpiece topic of his political convention, and has used images of New York firefighters in his campaign ads even though the New York firefighters union has asked him not to after he cut the budget for equipment that they need to prevent similar losses of life if there is ever a similar event in the future.

Which I respect.

You are not my pal.

My ilk? Who, precisely, would you characterize as my "ilk"?

And precisely what "rules of the masses" are you accusing me of breaking?

"mentioned to be private"? That makes no sense at all. 9/11 is about the most public topic in the history of mankind.

Everyone is entirely welcome to disagree with me. And I have every right to disagree with them.

I think Wanda's post was very illustrative.

Quite right.

Why the parentheses around the "un"? I was pretty plain about it.

You just said that you don't see how my post is any different from... my post.

Oh, please do. I'd love the opportunity to poke holes in your rebuttals.

Here in the United States, you have no right to order me to be silent. If you had been a little more polite about it, I might have decided to let your comment stand without reply, but no, you had to choose to use maximum rudeness, so I decided you needed a reply.

Yes, they're to allow you to choose to have privacy about your voting choice. There is absolutely no law saying that I can't choose to shout it to the world the moment I walk out the door of my polling place, however, while there are laws saying that I may choose to do so.

Regardless of my opinion on your post, I still want you to know that I think you're cool and your sewing/quilting is fabulous!

And if you have the time to be able to help, check to see if your precinct needs more election workers. The job probably won't pay much, but it's incredibly important.
