bernina 830 needs medical assistance

Hey All,

DMIL took her Bernina 830 to the shop in December. It was not winding bobbins. The SMG cleaned and all that. Then they have been waiting on a replacement bobbin winder. Apparently the factory warehouse in Switzerland had a horrible flood. So there will be no winders for a 30+ year old machine coming from there. Everything was lost and they won't be retooling to make new ones is what he told her. She did get a sidewinder and is happy with that. However, she would like to get her bernina working correctly again too.

Anyone know where a bobbin winder might be found? Ron, do you work on these too? I told her I would post for her and see what could be found.

Off to the land of prom dresses I go!!!!

Indeed I do work on them. I have to wonder if the winder is shot or just the rubber ring. It is highly unusual for a bobbin winder to break. Usually they freeze up from lack of use or the rubber ring gets worn. My supplier lists the winder but is out of stock also. First I heard of this flood deal.

Thanks, Ron. I forwarded your reply to her. I don't know if they tried changing out the rubber ring or not. But I do know she will find out. ;)

Sharon,

The entire bobbin winder is listed here:

've had good luck finding some very hard to find parts here. I'm not affiliated with these people but have been a satisfied customer. Judie

Wow, useful site, thanks!

Judie, Thanks a million!! I will forward that to DMIL and I will bookmark the site. Appreciate you taking the time to find that. :)

You're welcome. I keep losing the bookmark for this site so I'm grateful to you for reminding me to find it again and to mark it much more clearly. Sometimes they seem a little pricey but they have so many things that I haven't found elsewhere. The sewing machine repairman in town was pretty impressed when I found a part that he had been unable to find for quite a long time.
