following the closing down of Hartleys Mail order, I hear today that Croft Mill are in line to close at the end of November. I had to phone, and the news is that Abakhan are pulling out, but that they are hoping for a third party interest that will keep the mail order going.

Rang them to place an order this morning: Yes Abakahn are pulling out on the 27th November, but 'Arr Alan' is galloping round like a one armed paper hanger trying to save the mill from closure. All the folk who work there are really worried about their jobs, and not just from the earnings point of view: it's such a good place to work that they'll find it hard to work anywhere else. Jobs in and around Colne are not that easy to come by as it's fairly isolated. So all you good folk keep your fingers crossed that Alan from Croft Mill pulls a nice fat rabbit out of his flat cap and the place keeps selling us fabulous fabrics at fantastic prices, notions of all sorts, and the occasionally really strange stuff that we have no idea what we are going to do with it but it was only 50p a metre and the description was so daft we had to have it just to see...
