First lady's choices

I personally loved her gown, not the 1 strap shoulder, but the gown itself i thought was gorgeous, and i agree with you-the train wasn't necessary. but i thought the gown flowed beautifully from her body, and i loved the floral details, and the color. it looked magnificent against her skin tone

the first outfit, that she was walking in, i didnt like it too much either. i think the color was odd, not good with her skin tone, and it didnt look warm at all. i know it had to be cold out there!

I thought her ball gown looked a bit "flower power/flower child" reminiscent of the 60's and early 70's. Perhaps I'm not seeing a good picture of it, but it has that daisies sewn all over it look to me. A bit boring and lackluster in color, the diagonal one shoulder strap was nice, though.

Haven't seen her outfit for the actual swearing in ceremony, but most likely she wore Cuddle Duds under her clothes, at least I hope someone suggested them to her.

I didn't like the color of her inauguration outfit on her, but loved the texture.Did you notice that Mrs.Bush's outfit didn't look any warmer. she also wore a loose open coat. I thought that the Obama's oldest daughter looked very pretty and age appropriate in her coat. It was a lovely color and suited her. I commented to my DH that she's going to be stunning when she's older. Since the ball gown didn't show up well on my TV I won't comment on how it looked other than to say that train was obviously a pain to her. I wondered if it looked better in HD. I must say though, that I thought the entire family looked radiant and really were enjoying the day. Juno

Actually I thought 'frumpy' for the yellow outfit and dull for the ballgown. I was a bit surprised because I thought some of the clothes she'd worn during the campaign were more modern looking and interesting. I expected more up to date from her for this much more important time in her husband's life.

I agree about the ball gown. Looks like it is covered with pom poms. I did like the inauguration ceremony outfit. I thought it was a nice color for her and a nice change from blue or red. Maybe not the most exciting cut but elegant and serious for the occasion. As long as we never have to see the dress she wore on election night again, I will be happy!

Kirsten p.s. Norway is just thrilled about Obama. I was interviewed for a radio program yesterday on the election and several of my American friends have also been interviewed. There has been a tremendous amount of news coverage as well.

What they forgot to say was it was made from his mother's old living room curtains. I liked how soft and flowing it was. And it fit her fairly well (other than the train!) But that's about all I will give it. The fabric choice was uninspiring to say the least.

I didn't like the yellow outfit either. I thought it was way too OLD for her. She's a young, vibrant woman. And that outfit was not young or vibrant. But it was better than the dress she wore to the prayer service yesterday.

I can't say I was particularly taken with either dress and I especially didn't think that ball gown did much for her. The daytime outfit I heard looked to be different colors on different TVs. It was quite gold on ours but I've seen it describd as "lemongrass yellow with hints of green". It does make more sense as a choice since I saw the Chicago Tribune article that described it as "lemongrass wool lace sheath and coat for day..... [featuring} a coat lined with pashmina cashmere for warmth.

I liked the gold outfit. Different from the usual boring suit. Mind you, I may be prejudiced, I had a matching dress and coat in my trousseau, made for me by my grandmother!! But then, a lot of things in the boutiques nowadays are identical to those I wore as a teenager.

As to the outfit itself, I wasn't thrilled with the flare at the back waist of the coat, but that may have been for ease. I wondered about the shiny stuff at the neck, until I saw the luncheon. It was obviously a form of sweater clip which kept her toning sweater closed at the neckline.

BTW, I did read in the paper that Obama was wearing "bullet resistant" stuff under his suit, which a tv commentator had announced as being by his Chicago tailor, Hart Schaffner & Marx. (giggle) So, maybe she was also wearing bullet proof undies.

I didn't stay up to watch the ball, so I have no opinion on the ballgown, but I did also like the dress she wore for the church service the next morning.

:-)) That hat was a real rip snorter. It had the potential to look drop dead special on someone, but I really can't think who could get away with it.

LOL. She was a bit too late for Xmas, but with a borber of moving green and red lights running round the bow, it'd be perfect.

Her inaugural dress and coat were made from wool lace with several layers of silk as the lining (woven together), so I'm sure it was very warm. The only thing I didn't like about her outfit was the green bow and the silver necklace.

Found out today that his suit was made from "bullet-proof" material. The company that made it, also sells a polo-shirt made from the same fabric for around $3500. Wonder what the suit cost?
