Ping Robb

Hi Robb, Last night I tried out my 46 polyester thread from Thread Exchange. Sorry it took so long to report back, but they sent the wrong one at first but quickly sent out the correct one. They are very nice people to work with. I have a Viking Husqvarna 500 machine. I am recovering an outdoor lounge chair cushion, with Kaufman outdoor woven fabric. Used a size 16 needle, with a longer stitch and increased the tension a bit and it is working beautifully. The only trouble I had was getting it to start winding when filling the bobbins, but I did get it to work. Thread is a little slippery and wanted to unwind at first. Thanks for the referral to The Thread Exchange. Judy

Thanks for the info.

I had read that the #46 thread was only slightly smaller than the #69 thread (practically as strong) and thus more suitable for heavier stitching using a home machine. But, i have not gotten around to ordering any and trying it out.

thanks for taking the time to share the experience. robb

It does look and feel pretty strong.

I second that. Tex 46 is my standard thread for heavy fabric and leather sewing on a household machine. #69 is too heavy on many home machines and will tear them up. My #69 use is confined to the Consew RB and 29 industrial and similar. I hasten to add that my household machines are all 1950's mechanical workhorses built like old Buicks and Volvos: Elna BU, Pfaff 77, 130, 230, Singer 201, 401a and an old Kenmore and a White. I can't speak to modern electronic machines with #46 thread. JPBill
