HTML?

Aug 13, 2004 8 Replies

Sorry about this, but am I posting with html? I just subscribed to the ng through my server instead of going through google and when I hit "post", I got a pop-up that said most groups don't accept html. If I am, can someone tell me how to stop it?

Thanks, Ruth

Ayup. Says HTML. You're using Outlook Express, so:

Go to , then , and tab. You'll see "News sending format" with HTML or Plain Text options.

Select plain text.

I went to and selected Plain Text to respond.

Thanks, Ruth

Yes, you're posting with HTML. As to how to turn it off, the ascerbic (sp??) of me says use anything other than something written by microsoft (especially "Outhouse express"!). Realizing that's not always practical, I'd bet a quick google search for "how to turn of html in outlook express" would turn up something...

Thanks, George and Bruce.

George, I did what you said, is this better? Is there anyway I can tell if or when I'm using the html again?

That's the one. You might want to look at another option on that send tab, the one which says "Reply to messages in the format in which they were sent." In some newsgroups, hitting the reply button to an HTML message, thereby sending HTML, can get a lot of acerbic responses. You can toggle it off, if you like.

Hi, Ruth. I've always had "HTML" checked in my outgoing mail. I use Outlook Express, too. How come I've never received a message like that? You must be special!

Possibly because the OP was referring to news postings not e-mail?

Yep. Amazing how many accept the defaults without knowing they have a choice.

No, John, I'm looking in News, Options, Send.
