no, it's not an aga - we have quite a tiny kitchen, and would never fit one in! I know a lady who has one, it came with the house, and she has never used it, as she lives alone and feels it would be wasteful just for one person. She has a separate, standard cooker that she uses all the time.
In Ireland my grandparents had a very old, cast iron range, that was used for all the cooking. It was fuelled with peat which they cut themselves, and provided the heating too. This was very basic and would not have been very expensive, but would last for generations. My grandmother baked bread in it - soda bread, of course - and it was wonderful. They are not often seen these days. The temperature was not adjustable, you had to adjust your cooking methods to the stove!!
The Rayburn was used for heating - I have never seen one. If you would like more info, I enclose a web link
