Darlene - what did your orthopod say about the numbness in your thumb? Turns out that "normal" physiology has the nerve running ABOVE the tendons involved in DeQuervain's. Hopefully your surgeon didn't damage your nerve when he moved it aside to get to the ligament and tendons :(
When I broke my elbow in 2004 I had a lot of numbness and tingling in my arm and pinkie and ring fingers for many months afterwards. The action of dislocating my ulna streeeeetched the radial nerve and it took a while for the nerve to get over the insult. Maybe you have a similar problem now - I'll cross my fingers.
My thumb is amazingly unphased by the DeQuervain's release - I have full RoM and only a little pain.
I started PT yesterday for my wrist. I'm not impressed today with the way it feels, but I'll perservere. The orthopod is predicting 70-80% ROM and grip strength but I intend to do better than that. His golf buddy who put my elbow back together predicted I'd have less than 60% RoM in my elbow and I've got 95%+ RoM.
I'm stubborn, I am.
