I don't know nothing

That I didn't know before.

The orthopod I've been seeing since I hit the rink floor last summer referred me to a hand guy, who is sending me for an EMG (nerve conduction test), after which he wants to try another cortisone injection before he scopes my wrist.

So I've got at least until the end of the year to deal with a stupid hand that is even stupider than usual, as the hand guy said up front his surgery calender is full until after the new year. Just as well, I don't want to be a cranky crab full of wires in a cast to my armpit when I'm trying to cook Christmas breakfast!

So I'm in a holding pattern until Friday, when I'll hand-carry my EMG results back to the hand guy. I suppose he'll pop in the cortisone while I'm there. Happy joy.

I'm knitting slowly, spinning as the mood takes me, and making my husband do the housework :D

I totally undersand about the hand. My DH is also doing all the housework and cooking as my hand is still not working.

Take care and know that I am thinking about you.

Hi Wooly,

Aren't those EMG tests fun? I've had them done on my leg and arm and I know what they are like.

Good luck at the doctors.

Hugs,

I've had one done on each hand for carpal tunnel. The first one terrified me, but because I knew what to expect the second time, it wasn't so bad. Even though my left wrist/hand now has carpal tunnel too, I'm not having the operation - at least not yet. It's not bad enough to put up with the results.

I just my EMG test yesterday. Ulnar, and Median nerve was tested, and I had 2 needle insertions. The test took about 20 minutes, but most of the time was spent on setting up cables, etc. The doctor used electrodes that he taped on my skin. The experience was very interesting, because your muscles contract when the electric shock is applied.

Sounds scary, but needle insertions are not more painful than acupuncture. And the shocks do not cause any pain.

I've had no bruises, and there was no blood at the needle insertion points.

I can gladly take this test anytime.

Ack! I don't do well with needles! When they have to take blood, I have to look the other way... in fact when I get a flu shot (even though I rarely even feel them) I have to look away. I hope this works for you and am glad that you don't mind it. :o)

I had this done after my cast came off last summer - its rather like the old biology project in which one fillets the frog, then hooks him up to a battery to make him dance :P

Today I'm having ulnar and medial nerve conduction testing done, to find out if my neurologic symptoms are related to nerve damage (poor conductivity) or nerve compression (good conductivity). Either way, I've got to have my wrist fixed, but apparently the EMG results will tell the orthopedist what additional fiddling he might need to do while he's in there, and whether he has to do a cubital release on my elbow (yay, more elbow surgery) at the same time.

Ewww... I remember being told in grade 9 science that we had to disect a frog. I couldn't do it... I freaked. I was told if I didn't participate I would fail the class and have to repeat it the following year, so a friend came over to be my partner and HE did it instead.

Good luck with that stuff... doesn't sound too pleasant, but if it will help, I guess that's the most important thing about it.
