It's dd, but all of the shops round here seem to stock Sirdar: I can also get Rowan and Jaegar fairly easily (and Opal sock wool), but the only Patons available round here seems to be the furry one (could be whisper).

That makes it sound like we have lots of yarn shops. We've got two in the nearest town, and the others are in a 40 minute radius of my house, so they are not exactly convenient.

LOL! I assumed as much but when I showed my DH the pic he had other interesting ideas as to what to wear and not wear under it....Kimela

Thanks, Katherine, I've had a lot of fun with the kumihimo, although remembering the sequences of moves is still a bit of a struggle! I hope to be able to tackle braids using more bobbins soon - even more complicated LOL.

I don't think you're alone in having a lack of local yarn supplies. I have to say that you already visited the place (on the market) that gets most of my custom outside of eBay. I could get Rowan, Debbie Bliss, Jaegar and Sirdar from John Lewis, but I don't like their prices! This Patons was one of my bargains off eBay, 750g for £4.70 plus postage.

I'm just wondering where your lys places are - they could be at least localish for me. The two places nearest me aren't too bad until I want to do something for myself and then they have almost nothing that's not acrylic (to most forms of which I'm allergic).

Hi Ray, whereabouts are you? I'm in Norwich and the place I mentioned is a stall on Norwich Market. The owner is very pleasant and helpful and she stocks a diverse range of basic to middle of the price range yarns. I did see some Stylecraft pure wool there last time. The local Co-op has a small wool department, mainly Sirdar, and as I said John Lewis has the more expensive brands. HTH

I actually live a lot closer to Oxford then Norwich, but I've got relatives near there: so I've done a bit of yarn-shopping in Norwich. The market place has a wide variation, but her stall is incredibly packed.

I'm actually a couple of hours drive from Norwich in a small town called Chatteris. I wish I'd known there was a stall in the market earlier in the year - we spent a weekend at UEA for a folk festival in February and most of the Saturday around the centre dancing - even got my lunch in the market. Oh well, saves me from spending money I can't afford on yarn I don't really need atm!
