HELP!!!!!

A while back someone on here told me (or us in general) how to clear the stuff piling up on the computer. I *know* how to clear the History folder, but I'm pretty sure the other stuff has been accumulating for a while now, and with Matthew not home for another week I don't want to overload his computer with things backing up in there. In any case... when it was posted on the newsgroup, how to find and clear it... I sent the information to myself for safe keeping. Once again, my "safe keeping" idea went out the window, because I just spent the last half hour looking through ALL the stuff in ALL my email accounts and I can't find it anywhere! :o/ Somebody please help!

We use Internet Explorer 6.0 if that helps, and to read the newsgroups we use Outlook Express... if that's even important.

In Explorer click Tools|Internet options.

Clear the History, clear the Offline viewing files, clear cookies.

Delete OE messages, then empty the trash.

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

Hi Gemini, I suppose you are talking about the TIF (Temporary Internet Files) I can become a bit crowded with useless stuff. If you want to suppress all that, you go to Start, Research and then click on the first (Files or Folders, my PC is in French) When the window opens you only have to write Temporary Internet Files on the first line and choose (C:). Click research now. When it stops you will find what you are looking for(Temporary Internet Files).Click on that and when it opens you only have to choose what to suppress, a part of it or everything. If you want a big part of it to go, or all of it, keep your finger on the button (left) and slowly low the arrow till the place where you want to stop. Click then on the right button (of your mouse of course) and choose suppress. If it asks you if you want to suppress the cookies you choose.Or you can click Editing, Select all and suppress. Hope that helps or at least doesn't confuse you much :-).

Gem, With IE 6 ( and I think 5 also). You can set the browser to empty temporary internet files when you close it. With IE open, choose tools, Internet Options, Advanced. Scroll down until you see Security and check the box by Empty Temporary files when the Browser is closed. This is also a little added security measure. There are several freeware utilities that will delete all the temp internet files and cookies. DA

Gemini ,Wooly has answered your question but may I just suggest that if you want to save some instruction on the group just click on it and move it to one of your folders in Outlook Express, this saves e mailing them to yourself and then possibly deleting the e mail later - I have for instance just saved Wooly's instructions, in case I need them, by moving them to a folder I have named RCTY God Bless Gwen
