Is it really this quiet?

Well, DH has to crawl under the mobile to check on our heat tape. You couldn't get me under there. I'd even hire someone to do it.

I hear ya - but up here in the winter, I wouldn't be without it.

Looking forward to seeing some pics. I'm not a spinner, but admire those that can. I figure I don't have enough time to just knit, never mind spinning!

SPEEEWWWWWW! Heh, heh........ the scarf I'm knitting out of silk/cashmere would almost get the same reaction from me.

Bernadette, welcome from another UK member, although rather further south. I'm in Kent, and although it's probably not quite as cold here as it is in Scotland it feels chilly enough for me. It's been quite sunny today, but we're being promised rain tomorrow; can't wait!!

I've not been posting much lately, it's been manic here, what with aged friends and rellies needing eyes keeping on them and the 3 grown offspring needing attention (does that ever stop?!*) and extra work. At least the extra work pays fairly well!

Looking forward to hearing about your exploits and projects

Hi there O, hope all the joints are behaving and that you're not going rusty with all the rain you're getting

Heh - in a word NO. Most of the time, I don't mind, but once in a while, I think "I thought you left home years ago" (laugh)

It's the phone calls that go "You know that stuff I left at your house, did I leave a ..... with it. And can you post it to me?" With no mention of how much a very heavy and large ..... is going to cost to post! I think I still love them all, but sometimes I have to think quite hard to convince myself!!

Thanks for the sympathy though

Nope - at least not before age 45 in my experience. (my offspring are

31, 39 and 44 and still I find there is something every now and then that has them calling on mom.) It isn't daily like it is when they are small, though, and I don't think I would be happy if they didn't check in from time to time for something. Judy

Thank you very much Aud. I so much enjoy making crochet items and it is lovely to get such positive feedback on what I've made.

The weather has been vicious lately and there is more to come according to the latest forecast. At least we're not icy yet but I think that will come soon.

Do you have a favourite needlecraft out of all those? There are quite a few I haven't tried yet either. I think I will very much enjoy being part of this NG - there is a wealth of experience here and everyone so friendly too.

I also empathize. Here's MY 'complaint' about that: It's fine and dandy for the kids to shut their phones off on weekends, but OURS and US are to be available 24/7 if THEY need something from US!

Hi Christine, it is lovely to hear from you too. The nearest we got to Kent on our travels was High Wycombe. It was certainly a lot warmer than Scotland but a bit more crowded. There was so much more for the boys to do in that environment when they were in their teens but for their early years I was pleased they had the freedom of the countryside.

You certainly have been busy with all the members of the family around you; that must be wonderful.

I'll try to oblige with some exploits - I always said I'd rather grow old disgracefully than any other way ;-) and there are plenty of projects for me to sort out too.

In a few weeks time I'm hoping to get loads more into the web photo album - knitted jumpers and jackets, cross stitch bookmarks (my husband is a great reader as well as a computer buff), crochet jackets and a lace tablecloth. The only incomplete project is the lace cloth as I had to leave that to one side until my hand is fixed but I can manage to take photos and download them, I'm sure.

Bernadette, just now, for the last years, I have been mostly knitting. I miss weaving though , so when I get a little more time, I'll try to set up a new warp for more weaving.

I used to do that for a friend who lived on the other side of my back fence. I could go in on all fours with room to spare. Going under the cabin meant going in on my back and ooching around like a worm with the joists about 4" above my face. I'll probably have a bad dream about it tonight because I thought about it today.

When I get some decent sunny weather I'll take some pix. I decided to skip the gilding (for now), but I can add it later as gilding PAINT is lacquer based and should stick just fine to the lacquer finish coat.

I have two socks to show now and man, are they good. I *think* I have enough yarn left to make another pair, though they'll have to be shorter than my usual "shortie anklet" socks but that'll be OK!

You are lucky to be able to spin, Bev! I am sure the throw will be wonderful! I'm REALLY looking forward to see it, hope your daughter will take pictures!

As for weaving, I think you never forget things you have been eager to learn! At least it is easy to take up.

I have mostly learned weaving from books, and things I have picked up on my way. I went to courses for experimantal weaving, more decorative weaving, but later I've got a bigger loom, and have woven tableclothes, fabrics for jackets and other clothes, towels and things like that. I like to play with coloures in the weave too, so I have tried to use traditional weave pattern in a more "modern" way.

The most of it is given away, I thought weaving would be an never ending life-long interest ;-) so IF I want to have something I have made myself, I think I have to start again! :-) AUD ;-)

Thank you for posting that link - your jewellery is beautiful. I particularly like the turquoise necklace and the fall tassel. They are very striking. Well done! Bernadette

Hips, knees etc going on nicely; right ankle not so much since treading on (and sliding off) a clothes peg just after Christmas. Oh! the pretty colours it went, and Oh! the unladylike language! Gradually improving but Practice nursing isn't the job to make it easy to rest up. Still at least I can get my shoe on again.

And all the best for a healthy New Year to you, shame the Hogmanay celebrations were cancelled, but it was a wee bit windy wasn't it?

Oh nooooooooooooooooooo:(((((

Oh! the pretty

Jings you need to be more careful and watch where you are walking young lady!!!!!!

So I hear! I was in bed by 11.20pm. My daughter phoned from Germany to say Happy New Year (they are one hour ahead of us) and then I went back to sleep again!

The weather has been dreadful since before Christmas:( Today was very cold but sunny and I went for a wee walk in the sunshine in my lunch hour. But the forecast is bad again for Thursday. I have never seen so many gales and rain.

Oh well, we can only hope for it getting better:))

Thanks Noreen, it's been manic here, so I've been reading, but not had time to post. Still that's life Love & higs Christine

Well I called myself all the silly so'n'so's under the sun as I stood on one leg. Teach me to look where I'm going when carrying a basket of washing!! I'll try to be more careful in future, it did hurt! We've had wind, rain, more wind and more rain down here, although yesterday was quite bright, and guess what: I was working all day! If they threaten us with a drought order again this summer I think I shall despair. Hope the end of the week's not too awful, but you may be able to wear your winter woolies. I've been wearing my pretty pink knitted bucket hat to keep the wind out the hair (There you are back on topic, how about that!)
