LOL !! I guess that is "out of the area." That is near the Mediterranean Sea, correct? (Can you tell I'm a little off on my geography?) Boston must have seemed a little familiar while you were here, due to its proximity to the water. Your weather temperatures must more resemble those in the southern part of the United States, I would imagine.

Carey , here is some Geography ,, at your service ,,, if you look East from Boston ,,, There is the triangle Europe in North . Africa in South , in between is the Mediternean and between Europe ans Africa on the Eastern [ and much shorter shore] side of this SEA you have Lebanon in the north part and Israel on the southern part of the shore. Haifa lies on Mount Carmel [ see Bible ,Elijahu the prophet , King David and Abigail] which portrudes into the sea as a big nose , hence Haifa is the only place in Israel where the sea is also North . In Hebrew the word WEST parrallel Yam =Sea ,,, just the opposite than in Boston where the Sea is east ,,, our parraleel word for east is Kedem { days of Yore ] . The bay of Haifa ends in the north In AKKO = Acre one of the most ancient cities in the world. Has been ruled by ancient Cnaanites , Tribe of Asher , Tzidonaites ,,, Napoleon Couldn`t conquer it at the time , Turks , and not to forget it was an important Crusaders Hold at the time .... Music and Theatre festivals are still held in the Newly Dug up Crusaders halls .

Haifa is a real on the shore city , and we can be in the sea in 20 minutes ride or walk a good hour , We have many Staircase `streets` ,

Boston has a river , we have a small one you don`t see , [ Bible Kishon] Down in the bay which Alas resembles more a Stinky out let [ it is being cleaned now] . Boston for me was more like an extension to both Amsterdam [ Holland] and Manchester [ UK] , Both p[laces i lived before and Boston had some English/Dutch Feeling ....

Well ?????? a little bit like California ,,, We don`t have real 4 seasons ,, more like 2 main seasons and 2 Mixed seasons ... Today wehave very hot Desert weather , Dry air hot l;ike a hair dryer

Thank you, Mirjam. I took another look at MSN Encarta world map, and it looks like you certainly have more water around the Haifa area than Boston has. As for the weather, I was thinking it was similar to the weather in the state Georgia, but it's humid there. Your description of hot desert weather sounds as if it would be more like California, or what I imagine the southwestern part of the country is like. Can't speak from experience, as I've never been there, though. I saw a couple of pictures of what I believe are 'staircase streets' on the web while looking for info on Haifa, and it certainly looks to be a wonderful city with its rich history. (You must get a good bit of exercise with those streets.) The information I read makes me remember that the colonists only came to America a little over 400 years ago, and that United States didn't really become a nation until about 230 years ago. Much younger than Haifa. Thank you again for broadening my understanding.

I think Boston has more water because of the river .

We have sometimes Humidity , but not as much as Boston has !!!

yes mostly but not 100% >I've never been there, though. I saw a couple of pictures of what I believe I never looked at the city`s site , We do have Mountain Stair gardens of the Bahai Shrine !!! [ps Haifa had some of the Beauty queens of Haifa , we claim all those stairs walking sure has part in it !!!!! Ps i live about 250 metters above sealevel . When you go to Tiberias , or the Dead Sea [ the lowest place on earth] You can take a photo next to a sign saying 'SEA LEVEL " Tourists love it .

HOW NICE ,,,,, By the way Did you see how big mount carmel really is ,,, Now if i can tell you more Please ask , Haifa lies about 2 hours by Bus from Nazareth, or Jerusalem , one hour from the Lebanese border , Infact on nice days you can see the top of the moubtain ridge bordering with Lebanon, In the First gulf war , Haifa got Missiles sent from Iraq ,, They were sent from places called H 1 H2 , which in fact were old [ not used ] pumping stations on the oil pipe that led oil from Iraq - To Haifa during the British Mandate . mirjam
