OT Devestating Weather in central US

All is well here. I have been working alot and reading everyday but rarely have much to say. I am working on ponchos for my 3 DGDs. Next I need to make another set of golf club covers for my Dad. Not sure how he wears them out. Thanks for thinking of me. Carol in TN

I hope and pray that any of our extended cyber family who lives in and around these areas are safe and sound. I can't believe how many storms there were.

Waving hand, letting everyone know that I'm ok in middle TN, the worst of it was west of us. Thanks for asking, Diane, it was a horrendous night. Don stayed up till

2am waiting and watching. Hugs, Noreen Hoping everyone else is also OK!!!!!

Thank goodness you are alright. :) I can't imagine how frightening that must have been. Here in NJ we usually do not have to worry about this. I have lived thru some whoppers but never tornados. And to think that this is just the beginning of storm season is just scary.

Stay safe,

Diane

PS - DD (age 10) is reading "Night of the Twisters" by Ivy Ruckman She is glued to it, it is scary though, so not for everyone.

aww, thanks, Diane! For Don to stay awake that long, I knew it had to be bad.... he's always said to never worry until HE is, and he was. He's been through 2, I've been through 3 (original WI and IL-ers we are, so used to midwest-type storms, although TN is now the 'new' tornadoalley that OK and TX used to be famous for) I'm worried about the hurricane season coming up in may for our even further south 'family' here.... Hugs, Noreen

BTW, I've just been asked offlist, and will tell anyone who cares to know, we are almost exactly 70 miles EAST (well, east southeast) of Nashville when you look at the map.

actually the predictions for this upcoming hurricane season look pretty bad for the whole east coast up into New England... i suspect we will all be getting used to the weather shifts over the next couple decades, as it's pretty certain we've passed the 'tipping point' on global warming. lee

I quickly looked at where they said the Tennessee storms were - thinkiing of you - and it looked like it was considerably further west. Glad to hear that was correct. My sister took pictures of the damage in Nashville several years ago and sent some to me. (We lived in Nashville during the forties while my father was in grad school) Weather disturbances appear to be increasing - may be climate change related - but spring storms are nothing new to the nation's midsection. (I have stories- but enough already)

I am fine in Central Illinois--damage half a mile from me in two different directions, but nothing major in my immediate neighborhood. When the sirens went off, I dropped the socks I was working on and went down to the basement and played with clay.

what it is like to head for the basement. At my sister's house we used that time to sort family pictures. Around here it is good there are few tornadoes as there are very few basements

- though I have one (my craft room is down there). I think I would feel a bit uneasy without a basement even though out here the real natural threats are from volcanoes and earthquakes - and basements are no help with those.

Sorting pictures--what a great idea! You get so antsy if you don't have something to do.
