*chuckle* Well, I crochet much more - a _lot_ more! - than I knit at this time... I drop stitches like crazy... plus I haven't joined a live group of people for crocheting or knitting, so far... so you'll have to do this one yourself katherine! *smile* Perhaps there's such a thing as a knitting dictionary you can glean some knitting words from???

Cheers,

David

Hi Christine, two questions:

  1. That sounds like a criticism, was it?

  1. What's a "knit-along"?

Thanks

David

That's good - it has a positive ring.

Hi there David

  1. Absolutely no criticism of anything or anybody living or dead intended

  1. A knit-along is where some/several/many people all make a particular item/pattern/ theme at the same time, often starting on the same day and reporting their progress to encourage each other/brag/moan/compete to finish first.

It can be a crochet-along, embroider-along, sew-along: whatever you like really

Hi Christine,

  1. lol!

  1. Is this basically a competition, or does one of the participants collect all these items and do something with them? For instance, a "make-along" using 6x6 squares, and that participant (that month?) puts them together in someway and gives it to one of the participants, randomly picked?

Thanks,

David

No David, it's just a decision to make, say, a shawl to a particular pattern, using yarn of each participants choice, and all starting at the same time. During the making of the shawl each participant report on their progress, sometimes showing photos if that's appropriate for the way the group communicate. They can then share problems with the pattern and the solutions if they've found them and encourage each other. Then each participant finishes up with an item they've made which is similar to everybody else's, but absolutely unique. Sometimes if the group meet up they all wear their own item so they can recognise each other.

The 6x6 exchange on rcty is quite different, in that everybody ends up with a selection of squares which has come from all over the place, and is totally different to anybody else's.

Hope that's clearer

I like that! Let's use our stash for LGMS. That could work.

Hi, David. A knit-along CAN be a competition, but it usually isn't. Usually, it is just a group of people, all of whom want to knit the same thing, but for some reason or other, haven't. So they challenge each other, and before you know it, they all have the project finished.

David, Have you read Christine's suggestion? I like the sound of that - Let's Get Making Something - referring to a knit-along.

my goodness Katherine I thought it meant you all knitted something...in that case I need to start lots of knit-a-longs then to get all the to do items finished....

Thanks Katherine!

I like how different people answer a question in different ways, so there are a multitude of opinions and ways of looking at the same thing. *smile*

Yes I have Katherine, and responded to it, as you've probably read by now. However, I'm not much of a competitive person, and actually the vast majority of my crochet projects are not following a specific pattern, but artistic things I have designed in the process of the crocheting. None of them has turned out the same except for when I crochet granny squares. I have several ufos, a couple afos (almost-finished objects), and things I have started which turned into colorful pieces of simulated fried bacon which I later frogged lol!
