Need help with a quilting pattern- again!

I am a volunteer for our local free medical clinic- for low income folks without any insurance coverage. I decided they need a 'sign' for the reception area- but it's a wallhanging of 3D appliqué and a small quilt area rather than a traditional-type 'sign'. I used the insignia designed by our website gal-

I need to figger out how to quilt the 'sign' part of this wallhanging. Outlining the appliquéd and satin stitched block letters would be tedious, but noooo way I am going to outline the traced, curvy, smaller letters. The thought I had was a curvy feather design- the main spine of the feathers curving around the sign area with 'branches' of spines coming off the main spine and then 'hook' the feathers as in the book Hooked On Feathers. Then I'd use some kind of filler quilting like McTavishing, headbands or bananas.

I think the appliqués and lettering are bold enough that an all over quilting pattern of feathers and fillers (not very dense quilting) in invisible thread won't detract at all... and wouldn't even be seen except for with an up close inspection.

Comments, thoughts and ideas welcome- and invited! (Pat on her green and I are discussing this and I thought I'd make it even more confusing and confounding by inviting all y'all to join in! VBEG!!!)

Well, Leslie. I was just so dazzled I forgot what the question was. No suggestions from me. You're going great! Carry on. Polly

Leslie I love it. You are incredibly creative -- those 3-dimensional dogwood blossoms just blow me away. Quilt it? I have no idea. But probably simply -- something relaxed and don't worry about the pattern so much because the 'sign' itself is amazing.

Thank you, Polly. But I have to say you're absolutely no help at all, my dear friend! LOL

Beautiful work, Leslie. My first thought was cross-hatching in the sign part with McTavishing in the border, but the cross-hatching could get to be kind of tedious with all the stops and starts as you came to lettering. Instead, I'd probably do the entire white area in a filler (most likely McTavishing) and then feathers in the border.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be gorgeous when you're done!

Leslie: Wow, those Dogwood are gorgeous. I would want to 'echo' the dogwood blossoms ... quilt a few in the large plain area below the heart. Then just use a simple meander stitch around the various appliqué, stitched and traced designs. White thread would be fine, especially if it has a bit of sheen to it. Pat in Virginia
