I am faced with the Earthlink/Embarq Borg Collective making me change my email and everything. My new email addy is debikayem AT embarqmail DOT com. I also *hate* to read the groups through Google. I know we've discussed this many times before but it's my turn now ;-) What newserver, preferably free (I know, ain't gonna happen) can I use through Outlook? Or just a good one that you like that is similar to reading through Outlook (if anyone has any idea what I'm rambling about.) I've spent most of my evening getting rid of lots of 'message undeliverable's and "who are you?" replies since Embarq sent email-change notifications to everyone, including the members of the two Freecycle lists I'm on....
oh dear, i cant help ya on that, Debi... but i'd sure think now is the time to dive into that chocolate you've had stashed away for a good time. i'm interested to see what ng servers show up here for us to try tho. cheers, jeanne
When AOL dumped the newsgroups, I did the Google thing for maybe a week -- HATED it. I am seriously challenged when it comes to anything to do with all the Internet stuff and tried to get my mind around what was necessary to sign up with several different free services. NO GO -- couldn't understand half of what it was I was supposed to do to use the things -- VBS. The only one I remember is TeraNews and I couldn't get that blasted thing to work for me no matter how hard I tried! I asked over at RCTN for some recommendations and said I would be willing to pay a reasonable amount for whatever I needed as long as it was EASY yo get signed up, etc. One of the women over there finally convinced me to sign up with the service she uses. Now you will want to know who that is I bet and I haven't got a clue!! All I know is they are in No. Europe somewhere -- Holland maybe. They charge my AmEx a yearly fee of under $20 and with whatever it is I downloaded from them, I am able to read the groups using Netscape. Now I wonder if Netscape charges me and the news reader service is free??? Fortunately for me, the woman over at RCTQ is also on AOL and she helped me get everything set up by walking me through the process using e-mails & IMs. The only complain I have is that when I first signed up, I set up my sign on info and my siggy line to be saved and used automatically. The sign on stuff works OK but my siggy line got totally screwed up and I have never been able to fix it. Now whenever I post, I delete the stuff Netscape automatically adds to the bottom of a post and I past on my standard siggy line. Anyway, if you want me to find out who it is I actually use, I can ask DH to look through the charge card bills. Better yet, I can ask the woman over at RCTN and see if she is still using the same one I use. At least it's easy and not very expensive!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Would that I had chocolate stashed, Jeanne, I'd surely be indulging...*sigh* Maybe some caffeine would be in order, since now I'm yawning, maybe my brain is overtaxed... hell I know it is...
LOL... I'm the same way... I don't know if it would work since I don't use Netscape but I'm happy for any information I can get. It won't be a huge issue until October, but since it's happening one way or another, I'd just as soon get used to a new newsreader now and get it over with.
Hi Debi Try news.individual.net. I switched to them last year when I had to change internet providers and have had no problems at all. They are probably the same ones that Tia Mary was telling you about. They are based in Europe and I believe their prices are in Euro's. The only thing I was unsure of was their payment system. They use something like PayPal but different. I had Hubby check it out before doing it, and had no problems at all. Just followed the instructions.
Any way check them out. I got the info on them from many helpful people here, so I'm sure a few more will write in to recommend them.
good luck

When I purchased Forte Agent, it came with 3 free months of their newsreader service. To continue it is only $2.99 per month. I certainly prefer Agent to Outlook for reading groups. There service is more reliable than my free one. I may renew it when I get some time.
