Another question

What do you think would be the best stringing material to use for "barefoot sandals"? I'm not real keen on using elastic, because of a latex allergy.

Thanks guys! I can always count on you for support.

Do you mean the foot equivalent of a handflower, with a loop around the toe and some decorations on top of your foot? If you make it to clasp around your ankle, you should be able to string it with anything you choose. I think I'd look at skinny leather for this; the part that goes around the toe is going to have to take some wear, and shouldn't be ultra-thin like monofilament for comfort's sake.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking of. If i use leather for the toe loop, do you think i could use something like a 10 lb FireLine for the rest of it? I really love the stuff...it seems indestructable, well, nearly so...lol. I've been looking at a bunch of them on the internet, but I'm not really thrilled with them, and think I'd rather make some that are more to my liking. I have some of those "belly dancer" bells that my best friend wants me to use in a pair for her....she's challenging me to do this. I can't turn down a double dog dare, now can I?

Fake sinew. Definitely. It usually comes waxed. You can easily manipulate the shape of the strand to put it through beads, but it still would need larger holes. This sinew is also commonly "split" (unraveled) to make it thinner. There doesn't have much if any twist to it.

Is there a brand name for it? A certain name or store I should look in?

I'm pretty sure Michael's carries artificial sinew -- of course, you'll pay thru the nose for it there. Fire Mountain, Rio Grande, Rings 'n' Things, and South Pacific Beads would be online places to try. (That's a better idea than my suggestion of thin leather cord, BTW. Get leather too thin and it might snap; sinew will be tougher.)
