Do you ever have one of those days?

]Good news...I got my fireline yesterday from Bass Pro Shop. I've been ]thinking about Tink's focal I have and some designs for a free form peyote. ]I'm giving it a try today.

i actually had a bead store owner tell me last night that the Fireline they get "made for beading" is different than the Fireline from the fishing departments. AND that the "fishing fireline" is biodegradable.

i've never heard or experienced anything remotely like that, but this lady does seem to generally know her stuff, so i thought i would bring it here for discussion.

the Bass Pro store says: Berkley® FireLine® Fishing Line No other line delivers this combination of easy handling, castability, super strength and sensitivity. Stronger than mono, yet it casts farther and handles just as well-even better in some situations. Fireline ties easier, makes smoother casts and stays hassle free in any weather. Durable, too, as it won't deteriorate over a lifetime, because ultra-light rays, sunlight, even the cold won't effect it.

Almost spit out the Dr. Pepper when reading that one. Thanks Harry! :-)

You are too funny.

I just can't imagine that a fishing line is biodegradable. Why would anyone use it then? Interesting topic though. I can't wait to hear some more answers.

I just called Berkely, the Fireline people. What the bead store owner told you is wrong. It may be differently packaged, but it's the same stuff. Fishing fireline is not biodegradable, and that the package insert tells you to be careful with the Fireline for just that reason.

The bead store owner may have been given incorrect information from her vendor and is just passing it along.

well, may ARE. that's why "we" stay away from monofilament. it's supposed to biodegrade to protect the environment.

Geez. I knew there was a reason I hung out here more than WC.

And this just adds to my idea that there are people who just like to stir up trouble.

I'm sorry that you are having to deal with such goober heads!

I'm not going anywhere Mavis. I feel much better today and I could just snuggle everyone who sent me such sweet thoughts. Instead, Trinkett got all the cuddles and I'm sure she is about tired of me today. :-) She went to bed in her tent last night she was so fed up with me.

I'm taking some photos today and if I feel like it later I'll torch. But right now I'm playing with my new fireline and Tink's focal. :-)

That's because these new fancy lines can be monofilament, fused or braised. They do make a fire line monofilament and it is biodegradable.

I'm not entirely sure of the brands. I have PowerPro and SpiderLine. Both of those, and I would guess FireLine also, make line for fishing -- a much bigger market that crafting. PowerPro and Spiderline, and I would expect also Fireline, make monofilament fishing line that biodegrades. However, they also make fused line and braided line which are not.

The point is, you can't just ask about a brand name, you have to identify the product as well, in order to be informed properly.

I think they may have been misinformed Vicki. It is all the same product, just packaged differently.
