vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from "Louis Cage" :
]Yeah, it will change things. Everyone in town will flock to it to get ]really common stuff cheap. Then all the locally owned stores will close and ]if you need anything unusual at all you will have to go to a larger place or ]spend hours on the internet trying to find it. And good luck if you need ]any information or help on anything they sell there. God, I hate WalMart.
**sigh
** well, in Paradise, that's already the case [there is very little here except "antique stores" that take advantage of the fact that so many people here are retirees and die off.]
and i'm not fond of Wal-Mart either.
otoh, it's hard to bite the hand of the company that not only gave my son a job at a young age, they've continually promoted him, trained him to take his optician's exam, promoted him again, and are now training him to take on his own optical department -- all at the ripe old age of 19. they have allowed him to set his schedule around his classes at the college he attends. and they're going to pay him so much that when he does graduate, if he decides on a job related to law enforcement, he's going to have to take a major cut in pay.
