Me, too. Maybe I'll do something about it in the coming year. Or maybe, as has been suggested to me, it's simply not that important. I may not be able to "talk the talk" re: color in an erudite manner, but I know what I like.

This sounds like a nasty remark at my expense. I've learned my lesson. I will not share my experience here again.

Oh man! Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! That is NOT what I meant at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just meant that I know NOTHING about color, and I don't know a complement from a whatzis, and that maybe I don't' need to for what I do!!!

I was just commiserating with Vicki that she's not alone.

I'm so sorry if you thought this was directed at you. I didn't even read the whole thread, and don't recall reading anything from you regarding this! I just saw that Vicki had posted, read what she said and responded to it.

Art schools and classes are helpful for giving great inspiration and and teaching techniques. You get that synergistic experience with it. Not necessary, but good.

They also give a standard vocabulary, which is very helpful and also gives a professional connection.

for me, i would imagine that taking art classes would be much like having taken computer classes . . . in that, because is was self-taught up until then, i had managed to teach myself a LOT, but there were "gaps" that i hadn't yet needed, and the classes filled in the blanks. for ex:

there are things i do that "work". the right kind of art class might tell me WHY they work, so i could then apply that "why" to other things.

and there are things i'm reaching for, but i'm missing somehow. the right art class might fill in that gap, too.

if you see what i mean?

otoh, i would love to apprentice to a real honest-to-goodness jeweler!

Me too. I certainly didn't mean by my comments that art classes are a bad thing - just the opposite. Art class is a fun thing - a wonderful thing. Just not a necessary thing to put together colors that you like. Meaning that rules are not necessary, but can sometimes be a nice guideline. If you feel art class would give you confidence - go for it.

Wow - I don't think anyone was trying to make comments to hurt anyone here - at least in this thread.
