OT: The Voices in my Head

Not sure about that, I remember giggling on some occasions. Maybe I just have an insensetive butt!

And it is one of the most protective natural responses available when you can't literally run away to preserve yourself.

The problem comes later, when we get 'stuck' with dissociation as our habitual response to certain kinds of things. In circumstances where we -do- finally have other options, and it would be advantageous to remain 'present' and choose one of them that serves our long-term needs better.

This book is truly tops on the subject. And very accurate about what

-works- for recovery, IMO.

Getting to this point -- that's where a 'survivor' turns into a 'thriver'. You use the compost to grow a bumper crop of something nourishing.

That can be a problem with *any* sort of coping mechanism. When you build a wall to keep something else out, it may also end up keeping you in.

And maybe we reflect how crazy the world we occupy has become. And how much we need to learn how to heal ourselves, so the world we occupy becomes different in consequence.

I think I would suggest that instead of thinking about them directly, think about what new resources you would need to have in order to deal with them in a strong-enough state to deal with them without being overwhelmed by them.

Then instead of pursuing the memories, pursue those resources, and see where that leads you.

Yup. To me, that is why we have to learn other ways of feeling protected, so we -can- cope with the present situation directly ... instead of getting stuck in ith our original refuge, which has morphed into a trap or cage over time.

And I want an approach that doesn't involve repeating the actions of creating pain for someone else, as if that would solve the problem of one's own pain. IME, it only makes things worse, and perpetuates the cycle of fear and hurt passed on from one life to another, without diminution or resolution.

Well, still a jerky response. Just not *officially* jerky. Pah! on your nasty colleague.

My feeling is that former nut-cases make the best reformers. We know how bad it can get, and we recognize 'better' when we feel it. Every step we take in the direction of health is not only beneficial for us, but also for the world around us, which has grown a little bit healthier along with us.

Panic attacks and allergy attacks have similar roots and some similar "feels" (the crawly, itchy, icky thing.....). Could you be having a reaction to anything you are stirring up while cleaning like dust or pet dander? Anything blooming by your house? Sarajane
