The cycle wasn't complete broken if you still believe that he will always be the greatest love of your life. I wish you better than that. You deserve so much more!

(I tolerated 5 years of physical and emotional abuse from my ex-husband. We divorced back in 1981 and I am finally at the point where I no longer care - most of the time. The times I do I care - I will him every bit of hell he put me thru.)

If I'm honest I will admit that no it's not broken.

But I realize that I will not be treated in that way & that I can't change him. Can't help and I'm better off without him in my life. I am in a comfortable marriage now. No abuse or yelling. Equal partnership. It's calm and yes I admit it, sometimes very boring. Would I trade it for the past excitement? No way in hell. I like boring now.

Boring can be VERY good! I have boring now and it's the most exciting thing I can ever imagine. A man who believes in things like honor and respect ......... Gotta love that!

If you ever find yourself doubting your partnership, drop me a line and I'll give you a good what-for upside your head. :-)

You know, JoAnn, there is another step you'll take. Boredom and complete indifference. Acknowledgement of his powerlessness.

Tina

I know - and it'll happen. Most of the time it's indifference - but now and then I'm feeling benevolent and I wish him well. And then other times I want him to hurt. Physically, emotionally, whatever - maybe all of the options.

He no longer has power over me. He's in Florida now and I can't see him driving 15 hours north to follow thru with old threats.

There is ONE very good thing about that relationship - it taught me never to let any other person lay a finger on me without having them arrested.

A big huge AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My life is boring, but I'm not bored. :) That's the way I like it. LOVE it, even!

It's so good to hear others say the things I'm saying. I don't need drama in my life.

My life only looks boring to someone else because I'm content. No extreme highs, no extreme lows...content.

Ahhhhhhhh...like sitting in a cool breeze on a warm sunny day....contentment.

I don't think lack of drama is boring. I think it's un-neurotic. ~~ Sooz

I completely agree. I am content, but not bored. I have plenty of excitement and adventure, and passion.

Tina

Drama is for people who haven't learned how to be happy.

An island, all my own, but with a fast internet connection, food delivery service and a fully stocked library. A little power boat to putt back to the mainland when I feel a need to see a bunch of people.

My house? Something made of locally quarried stone (I'd never fear any storm), German made storm shutters, and balconies on every bedroom, so we could see the ocean from bed.

Oh yes, I want fruit trees and no squirrels to steal my fruit and bonk Bob off the head with the pits. A great garden would be nice, but it would have to be self-maintaining, since I cannot garden.

Since I'm fantasizing anyway, I'll have a similar house on the Intercoastal in Florida for when winter gets to be too much for me. I'd have to do something about the alligators, though - I keep hearing that they eat little dogs, and I don't want Sophie turning into a snack for some reptile.

My fantasy houses would never be hit by hurricanes, and I'd be able to see manatees frolic from my back porch. Ditto for porpoises, which are right up there on the coolness scale with manatee. The Massachusetts house would be right by the route that harbor seals use to migrate, and sometimes they'd even stop to sun themselves on my beach.

We'd have plenty of room for company all the time, and our friends would feel comfortable just stopping by. Certain family members would call before coming and realize that if they get the machine, they need to stay home. ;-)

Ahhh, excuse me while I slip into the hot tub with an icy cold Bellini. There are plenty in the fridge by the pool if you'd like one - this house is self-service.
