I actually hate mountaintops... but I needed an analogy for all the horrid effort some of us have to go through to get to "it". :P My journey wasn't anything like wandering down a beach; maybe more like trudging over miles of scorching sand dunes and scrambling through jagged lava beds?

]It's worth striving for. It's like climbing a mountain to find a ]beautiful, bounteous garden, a fish-filled stream, and a cozy cabin ]appointed with all the luxuries at the top.
thank you. after the last three days, there had better be something worth the climb. **sigh**

I see! I got all caught up in the "it" LOL...
I do agree, the stuff we have to go through to reach "it" is no walk on the beach!

After crawling away from a broken marriage, I drove thousands of miles through wilderness, dirt roads and all. Arriving here I developed and overcame a short (about 5? years) but intense bout with alcoholism, and survived a couple abusive men. Overcome an ingrained and disastrous trait of Co-Dependency. Developed and learned to live with disabling Depression.
Now, when I head Northwest out of town, I go past the limits of city services, such as garbage pick-up, and water and sewer services, and climb a steep hill. When it's icy, I still am on that slippery slope, and on the other side as well. But then I curl off the road, into my driveway. (Sometimes even into the garage). It's quiet, and though it's right on the plowed road, it's far enough away for privacy. I can wander naked, scream when making love. I can go a little farther down hill to the berry picking and creek. Hey, some of the creek is even mine. But that's for another day. Today I enter the peaceful log cabin. I can light a fire if it's cold, or look across the valley from the back porch.
And three years ago, after turning 51 and in the midst of devastating mental illness (Depression), I married an especially wonderful, nurturing man. A Healer. (With a heeler). With Pete, happiness abides here, with or without the frills.
And if we get lonely or restless, the plowed road will bring my friends here. Strong women, gentle men, people who know my path.
My journey is both a metaphor and a history.

Something beautiful and sad and moving and happy. I felt it deserved a new subject line. That "news of the weird" just didn't fit here.
Cheers, Carla
Thanks, Carla. That is a better subject line. Even though I have some circumstances I don't like, I believe I'm happier and therefore luckier than most people.
Tina
Yes... I love this subject line. Lots can come of it. ~~ Sooz
