Wow Barbara , you are an expert in finding wonderful , delightful sites , Alas The ONE i look for isn`t there ,,, Thank you so much for the trouble you took to find it !!! mirjam
Which flag would help?
Only country I can think of off the top of my head that has an eagle in the middle of the flag is Mexico.
Elizabeth
I know there is/was one other - my ancient dictionary shows Servia (as they spell it) as one, as does South Australia and Mexico. I know at one time Germany had a flag with a double headed eagle (have it in the basement).
Googling while I listen to Garnet Rogers wasn't much help, but I did find
The German eagle was a sign of empire. Austria had it, too.
I should have remembered that Albania still has one.

Cheryl thank you >
Poland Now has returned to some older symbols , in her flag now , the colours are from the 1830-31 flag and the White eagle on a red background comes from the 13th cent . . It is all a matter of curiousity ,,, mirjam

The Book of Flags , flags authenticated by Jos Poels , the Flag institute , chester , UK , 1998... mirjam

Ps my favorite flag, after OUR own , is Bellaruss , because of the side panel that looks embroidered !!! mirjam
I'm wondering if that's considered a phoenix rather than an eagle?
Joan
Absolutely not. That's the Orzel Bialy - the White Eagle of Poland. It's the state emblem, but doesn't usually appear on the national flag which is why I didn't think of it. Before 1939, there was a cross on top of its crown and whether to restore the cross was an issue of contention for the first post-1989 parliament.
Elizabeth
The things you can learn on RCTN. In my house a bialy was a flat roll with a little onion in the middle that you had as an alternative to a bagel. lol
Yeah, but my bialy is pronounced be-ow-ee, because the L should have a line through it.
Elizabeth
You know Lucille, that really needed a spew warning.
Cheryl
Only for the few that have ever seen an authentic bialy, which if I'm not mistaken was named for the city of Bialystok which is in Poland.
I will be surprised if someone from Nova Scotia or North Dakota (wink, wink) has ever seen one, but of course nothing should surprise me by now.

Nudge, nudge from NS who hates bagels and likely could fall over a Bialystok and not realize it was food lol
