In an arena ?

It rests down in the storage room, swathed in a green plastic garbage bag. In due course I will go down, hold it by the top, bring it up in the elevator to my apartment, take off the garbage bag, plug it in and VOILA ! Instant Xmas tree ! The tips of the branches gently change colours, all due to a coloured disk in the base of the tree that circulates over the light that projects into the fibre optics.

I do actually put a star on the top and a few strings of beads and really by the time the presents are surrounding it, it's at least as nice as all the trees I spent time decorating.

I bought mine at Crappy Tire, nothing special :)

Oh ya - just returned from dropping off DS.

Well, maybe a little frosty - mostly they just get nicked up, chunks missing so not quite so round. But, for the most part - they're black. Unless it's the lighter weight one for the 8&under kidlets - those are a lovely blue!

Y'know if you ever go a little south, they have decent bagels and bialys at TooJays. And there's some place, I should ask my DB, that they actually get really good bagels - of course it's in Boca.

I'm just going to have to see if Bagel Buddies can do a package for me to send to poor Cheryl.

The bagels in TooJays were just so-so the last time I was there about three weeks ago. The rye bread was pretty bad too.

That made me very sad because they were always better then most. I'm hoping it was just a flukey day.

Sorry to hear that. I'll definitely ask my DB where they go - I know when he feels up to driving an extra mile or two there is someplace else they prefer. But, the TooJays in Boca is in the shopping plaza by their house at Westfield CC, hence, that's easy.

I expect you run into the same problem as people do here in Halifax (Pier 21 is very similar to Ellis Island, most immigrants including ourselves came through there) and unfortunately all too often the clerks on duty did not have great spelling abilities, add to that they had to try and guess at spelling for foreign (often difficult) names, and there were some wobblies alright. They frequently just rendered a phoenetical spelling.

We are fakes however, we show as entering on the Cristoforo Columbo from Genoa, simply because when David switched to civilian we were supposed to leave and come back in. A very helpful immigration officer said to be down on Pier 21 when the ship docked and he would stamp us out and back in from Genoa. Which is what we did lol That could be a nightmare in a century or two if someone is trying to track us.

Which is how my Swedish grandfather and some of his brothers ended up with different surnames. He was Magnus Petterson, son of Petter Jonsson, and came out relatively unscathed as Martin Peterson. I presume they just asked him his name. Some of my great-uncles ended up with Jonsson as their name, presumably having been asked for their father's name, and then being given the same surname.
