Thank you Cheryll , I have been studying [and still do ] for years , And i am very proud about our ability to read that old books /scrolls writing Now as when they were written . We are ever so proud that every child after Kita Aleph [first grade ] can read those tesxt that are some thousnads years old .. mirjam

I have explained to you several times that for US the tanach is a national saga , our biggest Thesaurous of Language , historical stories , A geographical book etc.. It has nothing to do with what a rabbi tells us . In Israel many secular people know the Tanach as much as religious people ,, mirjam

Even if we accept that the texts have remained unchanged for thousands of years that is not in itself proof that their contents are true. That's where faith and belief come into the argument and that's why wars have been fought and are still being fought. Bruce

Not really - the New Testament was written mostly in Greek. Jesus spoke Aramaic, so there was translation right from the word go. Any versions thereafter (Latin, English, French, German, etc, etc., had perforce, to be translations) What we in the west call the Old Testament (the Torah, the Psalms, etc) were written in Hebrew and are still in Hebrew. Some dialect changes and some newer words (sort of like Shakespearian English versus modern English) but still quite understandable to anyone who reads Hebrew. There is even what biblical scholars think is musical notation in some of the books.

There's the old joke about the elderly Amish lady who when it was suggested to her that she learn English said "If German was good enough for the dear lord, it is good enough for me"

No it was You who started an unneeded fight when other people only were discussing Which fruit was mentioned , When somebody said she made oranges instead of apples , i wanted to encourage her that this was Tottaly ok and acceptable since the ORIGINAL text doesn`t mention an apple . You could have left it at that point, it was YOU who turned that into a Religious debate, not anyone else , and than you Accuse others of using Texts for fighting.. In those times most people spoke both Hebrew and Arameic. Acadian & Arameic words have been intergrated into Hebrew ages ago. We also have some Greek terms that are completely Hebrew sized.

Archeological digging pruduced findings that we all can read, as if we read the newspaper. Texts that went into Various Diasporas , all remained the same!!! i can read a Tanach that was printed in China or in South America at ease and i wouldn`t know where it was printed , since the Hebrew text is the same all over the world !!!!

Nope, someone wrote Bethel and you corrected them and most of us pointed out they had used the common English speaking spelling of the place name.

You said that Bethel was written and pronounced as two seperate words, which may well be correct in your own language and culture. However, you didn't seem to realise (or accept) that in other languages and cultures people wrote and pronounced it as one word. Bruce

Culture has nothing to do with a NAME OF a place ,,, Beth El , Beth Lehem , Beth Dagon , Beth HaKerem , Beth HaEmek , Beth Shemesh , Beth HaArava ,,Beth Choron .... many places were called like that , and you can`t change that ,,, and it is again a matter of what the original text says ,,,,, mirjam
