I did this appliqué using Ami Simms' method from "Invisible Appliqué." My silk thread came today so the last three petals and the center of that flower were done using the silk thread. It does give a good result but that thread is hard for older eyes to see while using it!!

Your appliqué turned out beautifully! I'll have to look into that method. Also love your purple fabric!

I was so frustrated by appliqué that I bought that book after reading somewhere else about the technique. It helps to go through the practice exercises she gives. Of course, I didn't do that to start with. I was too anxious to jump right in on a "real project!"

What I read that I liked about her method was the "no folding, no pre-ironing, no pre-basting, practically no-pinning" technique behind it.

I'm gett>Your appliqué turned out beautifully! I'll have to look into that method.

Carole, naturally I'm drawn to the appliqué block and am here to tell you I'm just delighted with the way you selected the cutting for the flower. The shading is lovely. I think you've become quite expert. Good for you. Polly [ an Expert, by the way, is defined as 'someone 50 miles from home with a briefcase'. You need to start shopping for the briefcase.]

I have a case for my laptop that looks like a briefcase. Will that do? When I worked (elementary school teacher) I was a "quilted tote bag" person instead of a briefcase person. I know I'm more than fifty miles from the swamp.

I did fussy cut when I cut the petals for the appliqué to try to get some shad>Carole, naturally I'm drawn to the appliqué block and am here to tell you

When you're finished would you please send it for a close up examination? I won't keep it as it has a named home. I just wanna enjoy the Poiples and your handwork for awhile.

Thanks, everybody. Sorry, I won't be sending it out for inspection. It had better stay here. It's going to be set very traditionally with sashings and cornerstones, which are already made. I think I have a picture of them at the beginning of that same photo album. I've also made the borders and cornerstones. I figured out mathematically what sized borders I SHOULD need assuming my blocks and sashings are all the right size, and by golly, I'm gonna' make that thing fit together! :) I've done a couple of other quilts that way and it has worked fine.

The top half of this picture shows the border design and the bottom shows the sashing strips attached to a cornerstone. The layout will be 6 blocks x 6 blocks, which means I'm determined to do all 36 blocks this time.
