OT - Christmas morning here

Well, the kids actually waited until 7 AM to get up! We hid DS's "big gift" ( a new iPod ) to keep him from finding it until we were up. He's already had it on the computer and loaded it. DH and DD are busy setting up her iPod Shuffle.

I haven't opened anything, I'm waiting for DH to be free. Think I'll go have my shower....

Hope every one has a wonderful day

It's a sign they are growing up when they actually wake later ! I haven't opened anything except gifts from friends this a.m. the 'big' opening occurs when they are all here.

We tear but I know some who open with great decorum lol

Now, back to cooking 101

And we are expected to get a slushy 1-3 inches this evening. Mom has open house from 10am to 3p. I may just save Christmas dinner to cook tomorrow. Talk to Chris in Japan last evening. They were just waking up Christmas morn. Got to see Kaito in his pj's. He was in good humor and even let his mommy put huge antlers on his head. He is now 8 months old and 29 inches long and 20 pounds .Can't wait to hold him. The happy little family will be here to visit in less than a month.

Bobbie V. having mimosa, xmas bread and eggnog for breakfast along with coffee, lots of coffee, but nothing to rival our Fred. LOL

No kids here to wake me early, but I was up before 7 anyway. Now there's nothing to do until this afternoon when I'm off to a friend for her annual traditional, wonderful, happy Christmas dinner.

As usual, she asked me to bring the cranberry, jello mold that everyone but me loves. I'm asked to make it every year and after all this time I still don't like it., but they do and that's what's important.

Merry Christmas to all.

Merry Christmas from Canada, to all! I hope Santa was good to you! No stitching goodies for me this year, but I did get 1/2 of a plane fare to go visit my folks!!!!!!! (Who have retired on the OTHER side of the country!)

I am in a similar position. I was with my son and family for Chnristmas Eve dinner, with a family we have all known for years. Christmas Day a traditional dinner with my daughter and her family. I bring a batch of my shortbread. The temperature is just below freezing, and we are expecting precipitation tonight. Hopefully the forecast will be right, and it will all be snow - 15 centimeters -, and no rain or freezing rain. Compliments of the Season to all my rctner friends.

Here in sunny Florida there was an alert a few minutes ago about tornado warnings and an expected serious thunderstorm this afternoon. Not what one thinks of when they think Christmas.

Jim said that some tornados had touched down west of Jacksonville, and we have had .75 ins rain so far. The front has passed through us, and now it is just a slow steady drizzle. At one point my weather station reported rain at a rate of 3.76 ins/hr.......that is heavy. A little thunder and lightning, but that is all.

Lucky you. I was up about then - being the elf wrapping all of DH's stuff that had been stashed around the house. Amazingly - he never found any of it. Now - to wrap the B-day present.

Good for you! DH finally came down around 9, to the smell of the freshly brewed coffee (evidently the grinder didn't get him). And we opened the boxes from his sisters, mixed those packages in with the big huge bagful the Puckster gave his dad, and me.

DH is responsible for ribbon/bow pulling. Not much decorum here. And Puckster could clearly sniff out some packages for himself - and wasn't he thrilled. He got a jingle collar (biggish, loose ring of green velvet and white fur with big mellow bells), and a new duck (Duke as opposed to his other Duckie) and a rawhide donut thing with meat stuff in it. Poor dog - he looks a treat with his collar on, and the donut hanging out of his mouth.

As usual - the crazy SIL sent us "light up antlers headband" for me, and a camouflage santa hat for DH, along with the collar for Puckster - who liked it and when we took it off him - he went snoofling over there to get it back. And a tie, and a sweater (only a size or 2 too big) for me. The mean SIL sent us .....cookies she baked, some really strange fruitcake-meets biscotti (not a recipe I want), and....FRUITCAKES. 2 Homemade blocks - smaller than a loafpan. She has them wrapped in parchment and sitting in a disposable loaf pan eace - sealed in a ziploc bag. One labelled "Traditional Fruitcake - SOCO (southern comfort) - the other "Pineapple, almonds, cherry, raisins" - TRISEC (Triple Sec) . We haven't braved them yet. The regular cookies were good - but, honestly - after trying the biscotti-esque, I'm a little scared.

It was really nice just hangin' out. Wet, rainy and cool - maybe 40s F here. But, DH was happy - I cooked 2 meals (brunch and dinner). And we had a lovely Merlot (I know - it's oft-maligned) with dinner, finishing up with some nice dark chocolate. Yummy. One of DH's prezzies was an assortment of chocolate in variuos %ages - all really nice gourmet bars from all over.

Hope your day was great, too - and everyone.

Ah - add some aged/farmhouse Gouda and some dried apricots!

Ah - now I know how to bribe him!!!

Had a LOVELY Christmas - on our own (most of the kids visited on Christmas Eve - Richard will be up from Kent sometime in the next couple of weeks). We slept late - ate too much, walked the dog and slept again - all of which, being retired, we do at any time of the year!!! As you say, Cheryl - it`s nice just hanging out and relaxing, knowing that even if you HAVE forgotten something, all the shops are closed anyway!

Next year, Christmas is cancelled as far as we`re concerned (apart from gifts for family and special friends) No extra food, and next year all cards to people we see fairly frequently will contain a sticker to the effect that those will be the last Christmas cards - we`re suggesting that everyone (including us) gives a donation to a favourite charity. Once the kids and grandchildren are all grown up, there`s really no point in going mad.

I feel sorry for all the Police from all around the country who are still working at the murder sites and the houses of the suspects all over the holiday period.

Dec 30. Tax year gift - though he was 2 months premie, and IIRC, didn't get to go home from the hospital until July.

Absolutely. The label on the box with these lovely fashion items was to "the photogenic ,,," so we took pix. I just haven't downloaded them yet - will do tonight so as to send to you and the crazy SIL.

Might be a better color for you, but I'm sure a 2X is too big. It's a nice green, cotton, interesting all-over cable Liz Claiborne sweater. But, the green is a little greyed out for me. Although I have put back on some weight in the last month - made DH promise we're back to WW this weekend. I'm still not a 2X. The crazy SIL - who orders size 10-12 (better than when she was buying 14s) is really about a 2-4Petite. And seems to think I'm even fluffier than I am - which is too darn. So, evidently when I was the nice, healthy, athletic size 10 - in her memory that was fat. And, well, when I started gaining weight - still maybe a 16 - at that point she asked DH some rather personal and odd questions about "fat chicks" - he hung up the phone on her - this was after she told him I should get my clothes from the circus. And to think - I was still wearing normal sizes. So, when I hit the size 22 - all heck broke out. At least now I'm back to the just

0X/1X or 18. I'm making the commitment to get back to my more "normal" me by the end of the year. I know it's got to take a while - but maybe by the fall I'll be back to where I want to be. Anyhow - about 6 months ago the crazy one had a big talk with me about why I wasn't worried all the time about being "fat" because "A pretty face, good make-up and clothes will only go so far" - so what can I say. The last time she wanted to order clothes for me DH convinced her out of it (our tastes are nothing the same). So, I'll see if I can exchange the sweater with the Chicago Dept Store, or else do something - DH suggested shrinking it. Having recently accidently semi-felted another sweater, well, I'm a bit hesitant.

Seriously - this is bad stuff. DH ate the biscotti attempt, and said, well, if you didn't call it biscotti, and ignored the texture, it was kind of a chewy dried fruit thing. We'll likely try the fruitcake tonight - I'm scared.

Hmmmm - an idea. Actually - I do have in the house some lovely cranberry Wensleydale, and some smoked cheddar. And dried fruit. And a lot of parmigiano reggiano, and some aged Asiago (which I may just use my new Microplane on - thanks, Donna for making me buy it).

Sweets. Him much more than me. We just call him my "bottomless pit" - although the first time I called him that at some dinner he thought I was calling him "my little bottle of spit" instead of "my little bottomless pit" = so, there is much humor about that. My old officemate, and still best friend Ken, is also a bottomless pit. Have the 2 of them at any table and no one need fear for leftovers.

10 days after DH!

Smile!

Love green and I've tried on 2X's that were too small and larges that were too big! But Liz C tends to be right on! I wear an LL Bean large quite nicely. But,

Dip them in wine, then eat!

Snicker!

I'll just bring DS - we have reached that age! OH NO! He picked me up and put me over his shoulder the other day! C

It's all over now! BTW - DH said that his chest protector is a custom fit (mde to measure) from John Brown. I forgot - as he's had it since I've known him. Now, can we exercise our contacts to get me new skates....
