OT: Just saying Hi

And since your DH will also shoot the breeze if I call and you're not home or otherwise can't make the phone. And I'm sure Donna will forgive you - event=ually (lol)

Hey, the prof told us pick something interesting and relevant to EMS. I'm taking a semester class in "Special Populations" which translates to geriatrics, pediatrics, neo-nates, refresher of OB, and finally challenged and chronically ill. So, with the wide open topic range, and seeing some really bad procedures for rescues of sports injuries, well..... Plus, I can bring in gear for show 'n tell ;^)

Don't worry. I'm still talking to you. LOL Controlled chaos, just like home!

Donna

"Special Populations" meaning those crazy enough to play hockey? ;)

No - the parents willing to get up at 4 AM to get kids to rinks....

LOL - while that would apply - in the EMS sense it means those essentially with special considerations when doing emergency med stuff - hence the list above. It's not an insult - just that for EMS folks it's recognizing some differeneces in exam/assessment techniques, differences in "normal" vitals, med dosages differ ('member - I get to do those intrusive things involving poking needles, etc), appropriate care and consideration - as well as not to be insulting to people which often can happen with those suffering from some afflictions - that don't affect their mental state, though physically debilitating. And so on.

I bet Ericka feels that way about ballet parents schlepping kids to Nutcracker rehearsals, etc. When I was a kid, the worst was swim team pracctice at 0darkthirty. My friend's mom did our driving at 4 in the am - as she had more kids on the team. I have odd memories of strange breakfasts in the station wagon at 6:30 am en route to elem school.

I'm not insulted. I kind of like being "special." It sure sounds better than being geriatric. lol

Yeah, my dd did the 5:30 one this morning. She's been getting a lot of bugs recently and I have to wonder how much of it is caused by these insane practices where she is not getting enough sleep!

As Mom often instructs salesmen/waitresses about her blind friends "she's blind, not deaf, why don't you ask HER what she wants?"

Fortunately, my professor friend could see that they were not addressing her directly, and took matters into her own hands in pointing out that her legs may not work, but her hearing/speech is unaffected.

Actually, I will readily agree that in many ways, the dance parent gig is much easier than a lot of others. We don't have to be out there at oh-dark-thirty, we have nice climate- controlled conditions, etc. Really the only downside is the huge amount of time involved around performances. Well, there are other challenges with volunteering (like spending a lot of time with hordes of crazed kids in a confined space ;-) ), but that's, ahh, voluntary ;-) (One might ask why I would volunteer to drive myself nuts, but that's a whole 'nother discussion!)

Best wishes, Ericka

I think Ellice you did a great choice ,,, and practical as well mirjam

Because you're a good mommy.

A few years ago, one of my friends was driving teenage girls somewhere and eavesdropping on their conversation in the back seat. Something she heard (which should not ordinarily be said in the presence of a parent) suddenly caused her to panic ... remembering all the times my mother drove us around, and wondering if any of us had ever said anything like that.

Although Mom wouldn't answer that question, she did ask "why do you THINK I was always willing to drive you kids all over creation?" She knew exactly what was going on with all of us, because we'd say things behind our chauffeur that we'd never discuss with our parents F2F.
