I guess just knowing 'their' story - and watching the almost surprised look on Charles face (as surprised a look as that old deadpan can give - groan) when the Archibishop asked that question ... it almost looked like he wasn't expecting the question, tho' I'm sure he was. (wasn't he?)

I still don't wish them rotten luck or anything - but to call that one a victim is going just a little far. Victim of what? Victim of being loose even many years before so much so that the royal family wouldn't even consider her for Prince Charles - she was soiled. This is all crap to me anyway - but if they stuck to those regulations then, then he shouldn't be allowed to marry a divorcee now - their rules, not mine. Amazing how money can change rules so quickly - sickening really. She and He both ruined Charles and Diana's marriage - no two ways about. it .Sharon (N.B.) ............................................................................ ......

Maybe the answer to that question is why I'm definitely an Agnostic and possibly an Atheist. I haven't quite made up my mind yet. Lucille

Lucille,

I am not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thimg not to have blind faith in a god, or "God".

Durned if I know how I swing. We are of a same age. At my age my parents were very "churchy", covering their bets we thought.

As for myself, I am getting steadily more dubious, even doubting my total upbringing. At 68, we are supposed to have our raised religious faith, but in this ere, we are intelligent, thinking women, and have the right to doubt.

I still want to be the spark for a firefly!!

Gillian

Probly ( for Sheena) makes no sense, but I know what I am thinking.

I've been noticing that many of my contemporaries, most of whom haven't set foot in a house of worship for years, are suddenly becoming more devout and attending church or synagogue or whatever their religion dictates. If my memory serves me, my mother and father did the same thing. They had no interest during the years I was growing up but suddenly talked more and more about religion when they were older.

Maybe that's a normal part of aging. So far "formal" religion holds no interest for me, and I find it difficult to believe in something, or someone who just hasn't been there for me when I needed help. I don't mean to offend anyone and I know my thinking must seem alien to some of you so please forgive me.

Funny you should say that, Gill, there is a huge article in Saturday`s paper, written as if they were celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary - too long to repeat, but very interesting. Diana was portrayed as the very contented wife of an ex cavalry officer/farmer.

Camilla was never (in real life) the sharpest knife in the box (one "O" level) and never did anything else but enjoy herself and play the field in any case.

I once told my past priest that I had a thing or three to say to that misogynist St. Paul when I entered through The Gates, but he told me there would likely be a very very long lineup. Dawne, delighted to know I shall see you one day, if not in Nova Scotia then in that warmer region

Got me thinking--along with the earlier comment by someone about all the men in frocks at the Vatican. Why not a sort of beauty contest for Popes, Bishops and whatever rather than the current election procedure. Isn't what really matters in this day and age how telegenic the person is ?? No one actually listens to what they say anymore. So, like Miss Universe or whatever--an interview in day wear (clerical collar mandatory. They would wish for world peace and insist they like to work with poor people), a runway parade in full regalia, and a talent portion (hymn singing, extemporaneous prayer, tea pouring, miscellaneous blessing of things......). A swimsuit portion, although mightily entertaining, would likely be criticized as sexist in these times, although one could argue by assessing the physique of the Bishop-to-Be one could gauge its general health and liklihood of living more than a few months. I wasn`t comparing her with Diana! I was just making a stateent.

At least Diana took a job, though, even if it WAS only at a nursery school!

That one`s been trotted out for years. My gut reaction is that "She" couldn`t be, or "She" wouldn`t have made such a mess of things!

True enough. Actually, I have always thought Monty Python's "Upper Class Twit of the Year" applied to many many inherited money types, English and otherwise. Dawne

If God is a woman, then perhaps for the same reason so many women let men think they're the boss. Also, "She" may have a sense of humor: just think of the laugh "She" would have when they discover the truth later on?!
