RE: Firehouse Angel in Flight

Hi Guys, Well, the Angel is winging her way to Heather in New York. I took her to the UPS place this morning and sent her on her way. I had her ready last week but couldn't get in touch with Heather so I didn't want to send the Angel until I knew that Heather would be home and not off on holiday or something. Seems that she was having trouble with her ISP so Linda kindly phoned her and then e-mailed me to tell me to go ahead and sent the Angel. UPS says that the box should be delivered on Wednesday but you know how that goes! One of us will post to say that the Angel has been delivered to Heather safely. Heather & Linda will talk with Suzanne (the woman in the PR Dept. of the FDNY) and set up a time for presentation of the Angel to 12th Battalion HQ (Manhattan). Once that is done, one of us will post here to let everyone know the particulars. Now, to discuss the money donated. I received *exactly* $500 in donations and isn't that strange?!?! The framing was $431.23 and packing and shipping was $65.57. This left $3.20 and I wanted to let all of you know that you guys bought me a Venti Iced Chai Tea latte at the Starbuck's next to the UPS store with that money! I didn't really think anyone would mind since it's really hot and humid here and I wasn't about to return a few cents to each of the donors anyway :-))))). I also wanted to let you all know that I FINALLY got a better photo of the Angel up at the Webshots album. You can see the mat colors a little better in this photo. OK -- that's it for now. Hopefully, we'll get the Angel delivered to her new home sometime soon and then we can all go back to "discussing" other things :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Sorry -- me again. I forgot to tell you all about my TOTAL screwup as regards the Angel!!! I NEVER DID THE BACKSTITCHING AROUND THE HANDS! I stitched the hands and then did the beading and then added the Wisper to the wings and kept thinking something was wrong with the hands. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong with them because they just didn't look quite right. I had re-graphed the hands to do them over one and didn't put the back stitching lines on my hand drawn chart. It never once dawned on me to took at the original chart. I DID look at the photo of the model at TIAG.com and it looked about the way our Angel looked. I just scratched my head, washed the pieced, laced and pinned it to the foam core and took her in to be framed. Once I got the piece back, I remember thinking that MLI *really* should have used backstitching on the hands. I, of course, assumed I had done the hands EXACTLY as shown in the chart, just one over one. Well DUH -- I got out the ratty old marked up, signed chart to put in the sleeve with the text about the Angel that I mounted on the back. I had to re-fold it to fit and what do I see but BACKSTITCHING lines around the hands!! I nearly dropped the piece on the ground. First thing that came to mind was "How can I get the piece out of the frame and add the back stitching?" Obviously, THAT didn't happen so she has been sent off with her lovely but a bit pale looking hands. VBS -- THIS is what I get for being so anal -- I forget all sorts of important (#$(*$&^ stuff. So apologies to everyone. VBS -- I can not believe I did this but, well, I did!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm so glad she's on her way. And I'm glad that you got that latte -- you deserved far more for all your hard work, but at least you got that, and the satisfaction of a job well done.

I just sat here and roared. What a great way to start the afternoon.

Grabbed the new picture and will post her on the site. I'll leave the site up awhile. No big deal. I could leave it up forever.

She is exquisite!! Very big claps for ALL involved. You should all stand up at once and take a bow!!

What are the words on the plaque?

Or to quote my mother and grandmother....''twill never be noticed on a galloping horse."

Yep. That's about what my mother used to say: "a man on a galloping horse couldn't tell the difference."

Where I grew up in the North of England, it was "A blind man on a galloping horse will never notice that".

Perhaps my mother and grandmother meant "from" a galloping horse...

In the SOUTH of England it`s "A blind man would be glad to see it!"

hehehehe -- apparently you and I have some Amish blood in us. I've heard that they purposely do something wrong when they make a quilt so as not to offend the diety with perfection.

Do they do that too? I know that Muslims do.

One other point - if it`s done on purpose - how can it be "wrong"? ;-)

I had always heard that American Indians do that too when they are weaving a rug or something, not to offend but as a reminder that no one on earth is perfect.

It`s a very USEFUL concept, whoever thought of it! The original "Making a virtue out of necessity?"
