okay -- when you log on to pal talk -- browse rooms...

go to sports / hobbies -- other

and there is our room!

I'm not sure if it stays there if I log off tho... need to see what happens when I'm not there

well -- I got a room set up -- but it appears that we need to set up administrators -- and one of the administrators must "log in and open the room up" --

So if anyone else besides Jeanne wants to download and install paltalk -- and become an administrator (you don't have to do anything but log in to open up the room). -- let me know.

Pal talk is free -- you can use text or microphones... and with the paid version you can even use cameras!!!

It is VERY FLUID for chatting with voice -- assuming you have a high speed internet connection....

But it does require you to download and install an application. I have used it for years -- and have had NO PROBLEMS with it all (it does NOT install garbage with it when it installs to the best of my knowledge & experience).

I can't join? I can't download the application! I don't do windows! I have a Mac.

Does anybody know if there's a way to do the same thing using AIM or Yahoo Instant Messenger?

I would love to join a quilty chat group!

I never realized that PalTalk wasn't Mac friendly!

YOu can do it on Yahoo Messenger as well....

Looks like we need to set up a regular CHAT time -- so people can build it into their schedules!

As far as I can tell PalTalk is just an application; the services are provided by AOL, MSN, Yahoo, .mac, whatever.

Maybe iChat (free with any modern Mac) would do the same thing?

You can also do chat sessions on Skype, which would be cheaper than an account with a chat server provider.

15 years ago, I could run a chat server on a Mac of the time. It did the usual BBS things via our modem Internet connection, but I don't think it'll work behind the router we have now. In any case, time zones are a huge problem with any chat system. We don't just need Mac software, we need a flat earth.
