It's official!

Well, here I am, moving once again. I decided that Larissa can't have all the fun, so I am off to Washington DC! My DH is going in two weeks to start his new job and then I am going to follow about a month later (somebody has to pack and move everything!).

So, other than G Street, what fabric shops do I have to visit and who lives in the area? (I'm gonna need some advice on which town to move to, so be prepared for questions!)

*sigh* Good thing I hadn't unpacked all my stuff yet!

well Whoosh! lol...you know we will only be a few hours away, maybe we can alternate weekends helping each other unpack and such .

Larisa, who now has to move boxes of books *into* the house and tools out to the shed so that the garage floor can be poured (oh, then the books have to go into the bonus room which isn't finished yet....yikes!

I'd love to meet up!

You'll be here just in time for the Shop Hop to discover all the stores! (Second weekend in Nov.) I love the shops in VA, but not so much the ones in lower Montgomery County MD. The ones up north are real nice, but I don't get up there much.

Please feel free to email me privately about which town etc. etc.

Best, NS

I like The Quilt Patch in Fairfax and Old Town Needlecrafts in Manassas. I live in Prince William County (have lived in the DC area all my life, was even born at Georgetown Hosp in DC).

There are several houses for sale in my neighborhood and the prices seem to be inching down :)

I won't be purchasing a house yet. I'm going to be looking at transferring my lease with AIMCO properties, so I have chosen to have DH look at Beltsville and Greenbelt so far...want to tell me anything about either of those areas?

I'm excited to be able to starting putting faces to names that live in that area! I know Cappy is in Edgewater, but I have to figure out where that is...

So much to do!

Even if we took turns watching the kids so the other has time to unpack! I figured you would have something to say about the fact that we are both splitting the NY state and heading a little further south!

I once found a quilt store in Alexandria when my daughter was going to college in DC. I know it was on a busy road and we were on our way to Old Town. She has since moved to Alexandria/Fairfax and I haven't been able to locate it since. Of course I have no idea what it was called. It was also a Bernina deale I think. Would you have an idea of what I am talking about? Linda PATCHogue, NY

Well there is that, but today I'm trying NOT to think about NY because that would just bring up the stupidity that is going on with the old house now. And I had enough of that yesterday. Today is for family and fun, and maybe a *little* bit of work....NOY going to deal with anything about NY todya, nope, not going to do it .

Edgewater is closer to Annapolis than it is to DC. From what I remember during my days living in the baltimore-washington corridor and working in Georgetown, green belt was slightly more preferable to Beltsville....anybody who is over in that area know if this has changed in the past few years??

I'm sorry, I don't know much about those areas as far as the community... One of the biggest issues in this town is the comute... Certain arteries and 'intersections' can be really brutal. Where are you and your husband working?

There's always the rain to U nion Station, then the Metro to wherever you need to go....that was how I got to work on the days Mother was out of town (we worked in same building). Never failed that I got there with more time to spare than when we drove in together!!...drive to train station, train to Union Station, catch Metro to stop a), then catch shuttlebus to correct stop....reverse in evening, but SO much better than having to negotiate through the traffic...and those circles we had to deal with always scared the crap out of me...that;s why I always had a book to read

DH will be working in the Forestall building. Near L'Enfant and Smithsonian. I will wait to find work after we have been there awhile so that I can find appropriate care for my baby girl....

I can see why you're looking in Hyatsville and such. Easy commute on the train. :)

You'll also be near the Ikea. I don't think there are any quilt stores right near there, but there are a few about 20 min away. I have to go find my map from last years Shop Hop, but I think there is one near you, north a little bit.

Good luck! NS

That is what I pray for here in NW Arkansas. We are one of the fastest growing areas in the US and we don't have the infrastructure to deal with all the cars. The voters aren't willing to vote for more taxes on gas to build more roads because gas is already so expensive. We need a public transportation system with incentives to use it rather than private vehicles. Each morning Bentonville population grows by over 10,000 just for the Wal*mart General Office employees. Each one is driving his or her own vehicles. Now add to that total everyone else who works in the city and you can picture the grid lock on all major streets. I am praying that with the increase in gasoline cost someone will get a clue. We have a railway system to all cities but it is used only for a tourist train. I envy the east and west coast public transit system.

YWAKKKK! Quilters coming to my neck of the woods???? WOOOOHOOO I am in MD. Dannielle, have you tried Cotten Seed Glory near Annapolis? I think it is just glorious! I am recently without transport:-( so might have to rely on the kindness of strangers to get to & fro..

Jo Ann in MD. smiling thinking of all of our 'collective' stashes being so close........

I live outside of Shepherdstown, WV which is about an hour and a half or so north of DC. If you are thinking of moving up this way, please let me know and I will do my best to help you.

Take care, Paulette in WV

Yup, I'm in Edgewater and it is closer to Annapolis than DC. And no public transportation in the direction I need to go. grin There is a bus that heads in to Annapolis, but I go to Alexandria VA to work.

I worked in Beltsville for years. I don't think I'd live there. There are some very nice neighborhoods but my concern would be the (public) schools.

There are some neat little sections to Greenbelt called Old Greenbelt. It was built for soldiers coming out of WWII. Really neat little townhouses, lots of green space. Again, my concern would be the (public) schools.

Email me privately and I can give you some heads up on the county you're looking at... I lived there for over half my life and both parents still live there.
