My African style wallhanging

You did very well!!! I like it- but one little suggestion- maybe some more of the golden/brown color across the top where all the green and tan is right now? Other than that it looks like you captured exactly what you wanted to express! Good job!!!

After a week of staring at the design wall and trying to incorporate the ideas some of you gave me I might finally think I am happy with the layout. There was a lot of seam ripping as I stitched pieces together before realizing I didn't like areas. If after staring at it some more today I don't get any more harebrained ideas, it will be assembled.

My first try at something with no pattern or idea what it should look like before I started.

Nice! This must be the one using _The Fabric Makes the Quilt_ techniques. I'm particularly taken with the split diagonal line going from the bottom towards the lion. And see how much better wedges at the top look than plan stripes. Very nice indeed!

Great job, Denny. Dancing in the moonlight for ya!! I think it depicts the atmosphere of jungle life quite well.

I think that's really great, Denny. I particularly love that diagonal strip that goes under/over a few of the horizontal strips. That's inspired. Well done. Wonderful for any number; but first is just amazing. . In message , Kiteflyer writes

Oh, I don't know Leslie, because that pair of colours really looks as if it could represent trees and undergrowth on the edges of the plains? I love that difference. Now you've got us disagreeing among ourselves, Denny >ggg< .. In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

Another suggestion: You need a tiny strip of color (green?) to separate the lion and elephant. When you first look at it, the elephant seems to be a part of the lion's body. Had to enlarge it to realize there WAS another animal there. Could look better in 'real life' as I think of this as 'looking at it from across the room exercise' And I agree with Leslie's suggestion. Aren't computers great for miniaturizing your work? Helps to see what will/won't work : )

I think that's the way it would be in the real jungle. You're not really sure there's an animal out there until you look more closely?

(lol, more diagreement among ourselves)

That came out great, Denny! Congratulations! Are you going to leave the outer edges sort of irregular? I think that fits quite well into the theme.

I just love looking at the quilts in that book! My wife hated the stripe when I started but as I added to it, I Like it more and more (she still doesn't like it, but it's not for her LOL). It might make the right hand border also the more I think about it.

I was going to square it up, but I may try and make a wavy border to see how it looks. Darn, you ladies are giving me more ideas, I never will finish it LOL.

That area has always bothered me. It's also not an elephant, but it does look like one now that you mentioned it. LOL

Thanks everyone for you encouragement! This project has been a real learning experience. Most projects I have an idea what it will look like when it's done by putting the fabrics in EQ and then it's just sewing to assemble it.

This project I sit staring at it on the design wall for 3-4 hours every night, and usually nothing happens for the first hour or so, then fabric says put me here, and I find a straight seam I can get rid of and make it better. The longer I look, the more things I see that I can change and make better (in my eye). I only wish I didn't sew pieces together and then find out I really don't like the way they come out, so the seam ripper comes out.

I am going to let this sit on the wall for a week after I'm done to make sure I'm happy with it before I finish it up LOL.

Do you have any 1/4" basting tape? It's sticky on both sides. I use that to hold 2 fabrics together on the design wall so there isn't any peek-a-boo background white showing thru.

Good Job Bu-wanna, It looks quite authentic. I like the idea of letting the fabric dictate the finished piece.
