Need suggestions for raffle baskets at guild show

Same here. I have never heard of it done that way for raffle tickets. That is the way we handled silent auction numbers at other events and it worked fine.

I have never heard of the "cracker" idea. Sounds like fun, if not for the show then for a meeting sometime. Local stores use the "fill a bag of scraps" during promotional sales. I will discuss the idea with the guild and see if they would like to do it for the show. It would be important to add fabric every hour. Did you have any pulling and tugging between quilters? I could see this being very competitive.

Susan, I'm not a member of any guilds but am a member (and currently president) of a local fire company ladies auxiliary. Our local auxiliary is hosting a 'state-wide' meeting this fall. I've read this thread (and even printed out some of the wonderful suggestions) with great interest. One thing to consider when soliciting donations, if your guild is a tax exempt organization, include those forms (501 c / state tax form) with your donation request. With the economy getting tighter and tighter a lot of companies are really cutting back on their charitable donations. Including this documentation with your request saves alot of back and forth with the companies that DO donate. It might also make it easier for a company that's 'on the fence' about a donation to jump to your side since they already have the paperwork they need. We solicit from both local and regional businesses.

Something to consider as well with the different valued baskets is tickets in different price ranges. We usually set up several 'value' tables - all the baskets on this table are this color/value tickets; the ones on that table a different color/value. Then there's usually a few 'large' prizes that are the most expensive tickets. One of our 'large' prizes this year is a throw-sized quilt pieced by myself and currently being (expertly) hand quilted by one of our other members. I'm hoping we'll raise quite a bit of money on that one.

Good luck with your event. If you need help/suggestions with list development, email me privately and I'll be happy to impart my meager knowlege. I've been doing these for about 10 years now.

Me too though there is generally a breeze in Foster City because it's on the water. I'll be working Sunday for most if not all the day.

For those of you in the SF bay area....

Quilting by the Bay part of the Foster City Arts and Wine Festival Shell Blvd. at Hillsdale Ave. The quilt show is inside the Walker Recreation Center Parking is free, there is no entrance fee The arts and wine has tons of booths to browse, carnival rides, boat rides on the lagoon and more food and wine than a person should consider. Saturday, May 31 10 - 5 for the quilt show, 11 - 7 for the arts and wine Sunday, June 1 10 - 4 for the quilt show, 11 - ? not sure for the arts and wine.

I was so disappointed but I had another commitment that night.
