On Topic! Bustin' stash for Da Bears!

All of Chicagoland is more crazed than ever because the Bears will be in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

We're really into it at the library, prompting the Wisconsin employees to claim workplace harrassment. I have said that we ARE culturally diverse -- the CheeseHeads get treated the same as those of use who are more enlightened. (They are FULL of sour grapes this year).

Today everyone is encouraged to wear Bears attire or the team colors. I did not want to buy another t-shirt, and I didn't have anything orange, so last evening I pulled out some orange fabric, a bit of blue, and a pattern. Three hours later I had a vest made out of 4" orange squares with a few blue ones. I'm wearing it over a dark blue turtleneck w/ navy chinos.

2-1/2 yards of stash busted! Go Bears!

CheeseHeads are Green Bay Packers fans -- which pretty much means everyone in the state of Wisconsin, aka "America's Dairyland," and thus producer of a lot of cheese.

The Packers are the Bears' archrivals.

I live and work right on the IL/WI border so there is a lot of "cross-fertilization."

I did actually know about CheeseHeads and how they feel about the GBPs.

I did not realise that the rivalry was so strong between them and the Bears. Does my previous post of support for the Bears mean I can never safely visit Wisconsin? lol

I'm on the Other Border (IL/IN) and we're a mixed bag down here....

For those of you non-local, the cities where the two football teams of the Super Bowl are based are Chicago and Indianapolis. Those cities are in the adjacent states of Illinois and Indiana.

However, living in either of those states, which team (if any) you support isn't that clear-cut. Plenty of Hoosiers (Indianans), especially in Northwest Indiana, support the Bears as a much older team (at least in that location) and much closer to where they live. Folks in Central and Southern Illinois may support the Colts---or go the other direction and support St. Louis.

And of course there are always the rogues---folks who support completely different teams, or the less likely of these two for their own location, or in this case, folks who support both teams.

(Except at this exalted level, they're not really in competition with each other, as they're part of two separate divisions of the National Football League---the Bears are National Conference and the Colts are American Conference.)

I be one of those folks who goes, as they say, "both ways", and will be good no matter *who* wins Sunday. But I've also got a serious contrary streak---as well as my aforementioned plans to move *from* the Chicago area

*to* Indianapolis later this year. So I'm thoroughly bedecked in Colts gear.

Unfortunately, I don't have a seriously public place to go in my Colts gear tomorrow, and I don't believe I wish to solicit suggestions from any Bears fans on "where I should go", do you?

LOL

And then you have me.....born and raised in Baltimore....so regardless of who they play, I will *never* root for the Colts! It completely and totally sucks the way they left Baltimore and it will forever be a black mark against them (yes, I know that most, if not all the players weren't part of the team then, but it's the pribnciple of the whole thing).

Last year when we went to Chicago for a Cubs game, I was very surprised at how *gracious* the White Sox fans were, wishing us luck. (And that was early in the year, when the Cubs were looking promising! LOL) After all I'd heard about the bitterness of that rivalry, it was quite pleasant.

As to the SuperBowl, I'm on the fence. DH is from Chicago, and Cubs fans traditionally root for da Bears. (Named after the Cubs, doncha know). But that Peyton Manning is such a cutie... *sigh*

I'm kinda on the same "fence" Kathy. We are Cubs fans and often follow da Bears. But we have two of our former Iowa Hawkeyes are big forces for the Colts, so we have to pull for them! I guess we can look at it as....... we can't lose! KJ
