OT: Pheonix is going up the wall

Phx is going up the wall by waiting in line in 100 degrees for as long as an hour to buy gas, at over $2.00 a gallon now, if the station hasn't run out of gas by the time they pull up to the pump. A main fuel line feed to Phx was ruptured and it looks like it is going to take another 1 to 2 weeks to get it fixed.

DH is in real estate and he left for about an hour this morning just to fill the tank up, he is taking the day off. He says the lines at the pumps remind him of the 70's. He's groaning at the thought of some long drives he will have to take later in the week with clients.

Guess we're all paying for observing smugly that OUR electricity was fine and dandy out here and how could such a large area be affected by ONE event at ONE place. Pshaw.

I'm not trying to start anything here (she says smugly!) but here in the UK, petrol is about 72pence per litre, which works out to about £3.24 per gallon which is $5.14 ish at current exchange rates... however we haven't had much of the 100 degrees heat (apart from 1 day!) and no problems with getting fuel! (yet - there are rumours that the tanker drivers who deliver said stuff are going on strike again...)

Ain't life just peachy!!

Kitty,

Keep in mind it does not matter WHY the prices go up. They will always go up at lightening speed and come down slower than molasses in winter. I remember the lines in the 70's. When they started, gas was at 50 cents a gallon. I told a friend the day gas hit a dollar, there would be no lines or rationing. She thought I was nuts until the day after it hit $1.00 and we miraculously has no lines or gas shortage.

petrol here is now about NZ$1.10 a litre, which is about NZ$6.80 a US gallon after exchange rate is taken into account. :D and i'm freezing my patootie off again atm aint that fun!! where are my warm spring days? jeanne*

That was great luck! I don't think the tankers are on a regular schedule at the moment. The suppliers are shipping extra in to try to make up the shortfall so I gather the deliveries are all higgily piggily. At least an end is in sight.

On top of all that, how'd you like the dust storm?

Which one? :} Although I don't really mind them. They are sort of a wild and windy authentic western sepia-looking type thing, dramatic, gritty and edgy.

As long as I'm not caught outside in one. And lots of little things don't blow into my yard. Or our dustbin ends up on the other side of the street.

Then again........=D

Really they're just a minor nuisance, you get used to it. And any comments or complaints you may hear about the summer heat in Phoenix are really just because we secretly feel guilty, don't you know, because the winters here are to die for.

$2.22 on Monday, and I hear that pump was up to nearly $2.50 yesterday. What reason is being given this time?

I just got an e-mail from my DSonIL about the gas prices in Lizard Land. He's an architect and is out and about a lot to job sites and is making a list of those places that charge ridiculously high prices! He is telling everyone he works with about these rip-off stations so that they will be sure not to buy gas from them. Here is what he has so far.........

T's 76 Station

7th Street and Indian School Road, Phoenix $3.79 for regular $3.99 for premium Q-Star Rural and Apache / NE corner $2.79 for regular Food & Fuel McClintock and Apache / NW corner $2.59 for regular

Texaco Guadalupe and Country Club $2.59 for regular Chevron Guadalupe and Country Club $2.59 for regular Conoco

51th Ave. and Peoria $2.49 for regular Chevron Ellsworth and Southern $2.49 for regular Texaco 35th Ave. and Union Hills $2.49 for regular

Well for once, we do not have the most expensive gas in the US. Gas has been about $2.08 to 2.15/gal for 89 octane here in Santa Cruz.

I pass this gas station every day on my way to and from work. Even though they're charging premium rates, when people need the gas, they're going to pay the asking price. It'll be interesting to see if these gas stations suffer any loss of business when things get back to normal.

My town has no service stations left; just a card-lock pump. We feel like hostages much of the year. When the Forest Service road opens, it is just an hour to the nearest town in Oregon and many people consider it worth the trip to buy cheaper gasoline. Last summer (and maybe now), the card-lock owner wised up and lowered his prices. Until the next snow-fall!
