A Plan for Haiti Relief Quilts If you follow the charity numbers on the eQuilter.com site, you know that our total given to charity has grown to $747,000. This includes almost $200K for Breast Cancer research, $88K for Doctors Without Borders, and $130K for Mission of Love.
We have received many emails asking how to help Haiti. Obviously right now what they need is water, food, and medical supplies...so sending cash to organizations that are sending immediate aid to Haiti is the best thing for all of us to do.
From the eQuilter list of charities: Doctors Without Borders is on the ground in Haiti, and Mission of Love is arranging to ship a container of supplies to Haiti. Engineers Without Borders Intl is putting together long term aid to rebuild the infrastructure in Haiti.
For those of you making quilts for Haiti, we will try to focus on homeless children and orphanages first. Mission of Love will be working directly with eQuilter to deliver your quilts to those afflicted. This is a LONG TERM project, but we all need to send cash to trusted organizations in the short term.
Mission of Love is backed by the Federal Government's Denton Program - airlifting food, supplies, etc. to those affected by disasters.
You can send quilts directly to MOL in Ohio, or if you are near us in Colorado drop off your donation quilt(s) to the eQuilter offices and we will ship them to MOL in Ohio. Please do not delay the delivery of quilts by shipping to eQuilter - if you cannot drop them off at our offices then ship them directly to MOL.
Over the years, Mission of Love has distributed thousands of quilts from eQuilter customers to 9/11 families/survivors, Pine Ridge orphans, and Katrina survivors. I will be posting Haiti Relief messages on my blog this week from Kathy Price at MOL.
If you want to have confirmation of delivery, please obtain a tracking number when you ship the package so you can confirm delivery yourself. This is a massive project and there are no extra resources to confirm delivery. Likewise do not expect a thank you letter from the recipient. They cannot afford even a stamp.
Put a label with your name, your location, and a message of hope on the back... and know that when the quilt is placed into the arms of someone in desperate need, they will read your message and receive your prayers and comfort.
As you know, eQuilter gives 2% of all sales to charity, with an emphasis on orphans, children and families in need, and disaster relief. This week we will give the entire 2% to Mission of Love, and will send the money out immediately for aid. (Last week's featured charity was Doctors Without Borders)
