RCTQ BOM 2007 NOVEMBER

Hi folks, I thought I'd posted earlier but it seems to have disappeared into cyberspace. Anyway, here are November's BOM patterns. The theme is Remembrance. In honour of our young men and women who are serving in the troubled spots around the world and their families back home and especially to those who have lost their lives or loved ones.

Here's the applique

When I finish the November blocks, I can take a new shot of all of all of them together so far, or I could merge the pictures I've already taken. My mind is too frazzled by the car to work on the blocks now, though. My mind is a "one thing at a time" kind of brain!

As to the car, the leak happens even >do you have a flat or hill driveway? iirc, its a hill of

I really like that one. I will be using it along with the BOM blocks I made last year. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Carole, leaves are things of nature--so no two are alike and none are perfect--so if yours don't turn out perfect no one will know. You can get little store bought bee or butterfly applique's to cover any particularly bad bump that distresses you. I've done it myself, and know it works nicely. So, relax and don't sweat the small stuff. All of your applique blocks look nice to me. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Hi Carole, I agree with Debra. I did the leaves the same for simplicity of making the pattern but poppy leaves are very irregular in shape so don't worry too much about them not being precisely like the pattern. Just treat the pattern as a guide and have some fun with them. All your applique blocks look great to me too. :D

Hi Debra, thanks for the compliment about November's applique pattern. I quite like it myself and I think I may make it up sometime too. (It's on the end of a very long list of things to do ;) )

I was looking at possibilities for December yesterday >VBG< Something with poinsettias and holly leaves and berries... I'm actually enjoying the challenge.

Elly and Debra, I may make the poppy leaves just a little larger to make them easier to work with. I'm supposed to be able to pick up my car this afternoon and once I don't have to worry about it and how I'm getting from place to place, I'll be able to get my brain in gear and get started on the November blocks.

The December themes sound good, although I'm kind of stuck with my same colors. A poinsettia would have to be deep burgundy instead of red, but that would work I guess. My green fabric is a very light, muted one, but I could make it work for holly leaves, I suppose.

I'd be tempted to make it a magnificent star, but I don't have your drawing ability. Debra in VA See my quilts at

White poinsettia petals are more green than white, so she could use her light green. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Can you see me rolling around on the floor laughing.... drawing skills ? Thank you for that huge compliment Debra, but you should see the amount of paper I go through and the rubbing out before I get something presentable. Notice that they are usuallly very simplified. That's not because I'm being thoughtful it's because I can't do anything more complicated... but I suppose it has it's advantages for this purpose. I don't suppose anyone would appreciate really intricate applique to do, afterall it's supposed to be fun not a punishment. right? Looking at the pictures of poinsettias on the clipart.com page Jeanne sent me I notice most of them have jaggy edges. Mine will be smoothed out you'll all be please to note. However, I can't really smooth out the holly leaves as they just wouldn't look like holly leaves so I'll try keep them as gentle as possible.

Many moons ago I used to teach catechism to some primary 4 (about 8 years old) and thought the best way to demonstrate the lessons were drawings. I had them in fits of laughter at my little match stick men and women..... 8 year olds are good art critics. lol.. Having said that I think it made the lessons fun for them and I think I got across what I was trying to teach even though I think it was the blind leading the blind on many occasion.

Elly, all of the blocks in the EQ programs are free of any copyrights, with exception to the blocks in the program that were designed by Rita Denenberg and Debbie Sichel. Their names are noted in the block names so there is no question of the copyright on those particular blocks. I just searched the library in EQ and none of the poinsettia blocks have copyrights (though the Poinsettia "Border" is credited to Rita) See EQ's information on this issue here:
