Howdy!
Ah, ha! I knew you had another plan in mind. Or several. As I said in the mat storage post, I love little cubby-hole cabinets. There's a Pyramid Chest by the front door that holds misc. sewing stuffs, including the little sewing "box" my m-i-l gave me; she doesn't sew, never has, but kind of inherited bits & pieces of "sewing things" for 50 yrs., gave it to me because she was sure it would be "helpful", as it is, inducing a state of gentle amusement when I see it. Like you, my carpenter father enjoyed cabinet making; several yrs. ago I asked him about the old wooden toolboxes that were always in the back of his (covered) pick-up truck; they were more of a deep, open tray type of tool carrier, heavy, solid wood; we had straddled those things, bumped against them, cleaned out the sand from the beach, all my growing up years (now, why he didn't take them out, unloading the truck *before* we went to the beach...? I dunno', because we always had to clean them out afterwards; maybe there was a message there... ); Dad explained that the boxes "just wore out"; several months later 3 big cardboard boxes arrived for my birthday: he had made 3 toolboxes (simple, open on top, sturdy bar/handle the length of the boxes, 2 1/2' long), saying each of my sons could have one also (not likely!). I kept them all for myself. Heavy & sturdy, they are great for holding Stuff. Big acrylic rulers, books, folded fabric yardage, an entire quilt project can go in one box. Another holds a bunch of paint supplies (I love to paint walls), hidden from anyone else (they never think to look in the organized places where things *should* be). After that, I could just send my dad a picture of what I wanted and he'd make it for me (I was careful not to over-ask). Made my mom so mad, "I can't get him to do anything!"
Moving vehicles: One of those Chevy Posers? HAH! I'll keep my Cruiser, thanks. ;->
Cheers! R/Sandy-- on a lovely, sunny, cool 1st of March in north Texas
