'08 RCS west coast Scrapbook Retreat?

I would like to arrange for the 2008 RCS scrapbook retreat to happen over here on the west coast. :)

Of course I would need lots of help knowing what it is I need to know from past organizers (but that will only build our friendship :)....

So, #1 am I allowed to organize the 2008 Scrapbook Retreat?

I am thinking Oregon, maybe Washington (because Jessica and I are both here) but Oregon is a good middle of the country location for people on the south and north ends of the country.

So, who would be interested in coming? Please post so I know if this is something people want to do or not.

And, past organizer(s), let's talk. Email me.

I personally wouldn't be able to do anything BIG for the rest of this year. I try for 1-2 things a year and our Sept cruise is our 2nd BIG ticket item. Of course anywhere I go hubby follows!. We will both hopefully get to met one or both of you in Sept when we fly up there to take our cruise to Alaska. Might check on taking the cruise with us. Sept 12th.

My year this year is filling up real fast so I doubt I would be able to get away for any meet this year, no matter where it is. As much as I would love to, I just don't see it happening for me.

I have always wanted to visit Washington State and Seattle, but I don't fly and the distance would be one heck of a drive. I looked it up on the Internet and it's 2309 miles with 34 hours of travel time. Sandy

You all explain exactly why it would be nice to have a Western US meet because those of us on this side of the country cannot afford to fly all the way across... it is just too undoable which is why I suggest either having one here for everyone or having 2 a year that people from whichever side of the country can go to more feasibly.

DH goes to BotCon (Transformers convention) every year, has been for several years. The company that puts it together has the same issue, where to put it so that all the fans can come. There's Transformer fans literally all over the world, so they have to put it somewhere where there's an international airport. They have fans from west coast to east coast, fans with families who could possibly travel with them, etc etc. Part of BotCon, and probably one of the most important features, is the dealers. It's kind of like CHA to us, only in Transformers. LOL Some of the dealers come from Japan! Some of the dealers are big enough that they pre-ship truck loads of stuff in. All this has to be factored in when the company plans BotCon each year. Either way, they have to have an international airport, and hotel(s) available. They also have to have a facility big enough for the dealer room, a banquet, and other activities, without them all being in the same room. No matter what, though, there's just no way for them to put it where it's convienent or easy for everybody to just drive in, etc. This year it's in Cincinatti, OH.

I say all that to point out just how hard it is to get a large group of people together who live all over. We have members in Europe, Australia, Canada, etc however, the bulk of the members live in the US. Unfortunately, there's always going to be someone who can't come because of distance, timing, or finances. I know I personally couldn't go to 2 meets every year.

This sounds like fun but there is just no way I could afford doing it right now. Possibly in the future.

It sounds like a lot of us make plans for big events a year in advance so maybe we need to take that into consideration. For instance, MC gave us a year to plan for that cruise she was telling us about. That seems more reasonable so that we can make plans, save the money, etc.

I see Melissa's point, and agree with her - I know that I might be able to make one closer to here, but not likely to get to Tampa.

So - Melissa, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I think what she's saying is to have 2 meets, one for each side of the country, so those who can't make it to one, might be able to make it to the other. Not that people try to make BOTH.

Although, Crystal, your point is valid, that we maybe try for a west coast one further out, perhaps in 2009. I know for me that's financially more realistic, no matter where it is. :)

So, some of you may be able to make it to Tampa in 2009, and others may be able to come to the West Coast in 2009, and we can all enjoy the company of other RCSers!

To begin,

I shouldn't have put a date because that wasn't exactly what I was asking... I wasn't really asking if 2008 but whether there was interest.

Jessica Is saying what I tried to say. My suggestion is that we have the option of going to an RCS meetup either East or West. This will greatly improve the feasibility that every U.S. member has the opportunity to get to know and enjoy the meetups as well as giving those who live middle country or those willing to spend a little extra the ability to meet persons from both sides, far and wide you might say :)

Jessica and I have been fortunate to meet 2 RCSers in the past and really enjoyed it.

I am simply volunteering myself to coordinate efforts on the western side of the country (I've got more time then Jess, though when it comes to scrapping and crafting we are hard to pull apart so she would totally be involved at the very least in the opinion process :)

BTW, I had a long time lurker email me directly that she would love a west coast meet up as well :) Hi Lurker :)

New thoughts?
