Biggest waste of money?

What tool or supply have you purchased that turned out to be the biggest waste of money? Consider cost vs. how much you use it.

For me it would be a Fiskars paper trimmer. Even though I bought the least expensive one at Michaels, around the neighborhood of $10, I could never get it to cut square, no matter how precisely I lined up the paper. It could be it was just faulty, it could be the paper would move when I slid the cutter. My Michaels doesn't take stuff back if it's been opened, so it's just sitting in my closet. I suppose I could still use it for cutting crooked stuff!

The little sewing machine that was sold for scrapbooking.......I could never get it to work right, and it's not because I don't sew as I use my big machine all the time. I just wanted a portable one to take to crops....oh, just admit it! It was because it was a new tool and I just had to have every new tool that came out.

I bought that little sewing machine too, with a 40% off coupon at HL.I didnt spend that much on it, but I hate it! LOL I wish I had room to keep my sewing machine set up to use it for scrapping. I like my Fiskars cutter, but then again I haven't used any other brand of cutter to compare it to.I can't think of anything else I don't really use. I haven't used my big red Sizzix a lot, but I want to use it more often this year.I have 50 or so dies including sizzlits and sizzlit singles, and 3 alphabets. As much money as I have invested in this, I should use it more often!

Good question Luna... oh you're funny... "I suppose I could still use it for cutting crooked stuff." I know your frustration though. hmmm what do I think is the biggest waste of money... probably my Carl 15" professional cutter. First off being only 3 inches bigger than my 12" Fiskars cutter you'd think it wouldn't be very big. It's probably 4 times the size of the Fiskars. It's huge and clunky. Secondly, I never can get the paper to line up properly on a regular basis. Requires too much thinking. haha I paid I think close to $50 for it too and it just sits. Now that I'm thinking about it I should pull it out and really try to make it work or get rid of it. I could use the drawer space!

LOL! I love crooked stuff. :-) Myself, I can't live without my Fiskar trimmers.

I would say my fancy scissors and the paper embossing rollers. The scissors are never sharp enough and I end up tearing the paper. I gave up and ripe it myself! The embossing rollers, were a gift that I've used maybe once.

I guess mine would have to be eyelets, and, it goes w/out saying that both of my eyelet setter kits would have to fall into this category too. I have quite a few and never use them. I like brads so much more. Guess I could make myself use some eyelets on some of the Christmas cards I'm making, or even on some atcs. Hmmm...

Good question Luna. I suggest you get a cutterpede trimmer. I love it and got rid of my fiskar for the same reason as you.

I am just the opposite...I use eyelets and snaps all the time, but hardly ever use brads.

Great topic. I'd have to say that my biggest waste was a fiskars circle cutter. The thing drove me nuts, I never did figure out how to use it. I gave it away to someone much more talented in using it. At the time I bought it, it was a very expensive tool!

I love my fiskar's trimmer. If you don't like yours just sell it on eBay. I guess because I was with my grandmother in the photography darkroom in her basement I learned quickly how to cut straight edges.

I would have to say the thing I hated the much was the sizzix MACHINE only because it was took so much space. I sold mine on eBay and got the Circut for which I love.

I also have to agree the sewing machine was/is a joke. I'd rather use the rub ons and then punch the holes to make it look like I sewed or punch tiney holes and sew manually.

I would say I am on the fence with Chipboard. I'm learning but not sure if they are for me.

Paddlepunches (I believe from Sizzix).

My husband got these for me a couple of years ago. The tools are still > What tool or supply have you purchased that turned out to be the biggest

My biggest waste was the Basic Grey Notch Tool. I've only used it a couple of times. It just looked so cool, but after I got it, I wasn't sure what to use it for.

I would say for me, is the fiskars embossing board (or whatever it's called.) I just am not smart enough to figure out how to use it right. Also, the little sewing maching. It would just sit in one spot and rip the paper then it wouldnt hook at the bottom to keep the string on the paper! GRR.

I don't think I have made a bad purchase. Of course, I don't really have a lot either. All of my supplies fit in 3 tiny 12x12 drawers. I'm sure when I have more room I will made more frivolous purchases :)

For me I love my Fiskars paper trimmer. My old grey one got a lot of use and started to go when the groove got worn. But I love the newer ones even more . . . they are awesome including the rotary trimmer (interchangable blades). Fiskars was listening too in ways to improve and the results are awesome. As well, I am not a big embosser . . . sometimes for something unique (i.e. I did a Yosemite layout and used the 'wood plate') but I have used it for fabric . . . making an impression on fabric. I like using my tools even outside the box but I have friends . . . card makers that love embossing plates.

I would have to say that I have tried two different times the little sewing machines and they have broken both times. I really would love a small sewing machine but I can't seem to find a small good quality one.

Luna,

I'd like to send you a new Fiskars Rotary Paper Trimmer. Email me at snipped-for-privacy@aol.com and I'd be happy to send you a new one. I'd love to know what you think!

Well I just read this question on what duds had been purchased by everyone. Out of all the duds purchased by everyone, I seem to ha ve the same duds in my house that I have purchased.

Fiskars circle cutter - dud sewing machine - dud fiscars cutter - trimmer - worked good for me eyelets. I use them all the time and the five or six piece set in the silver box works good, but the two different instant eyelet setters were duds. Fiskars embossing thingie - dud Sizzix - works fine, just dont use it The little gadget that makes little pressed borders around paper to make little tags quickutz paddle - dud don't have the strength to make it work
