Making stamps out of sizzix

I was telling a friend of my who scrapbooks that I'm thinking about selling my collection of sizzix to buy a cricut or wishblade. First off she thought I was crazy to do that, but I don't use it that much. I have so many that when I scrapbook, I don't want to take the time and go through the sizzix to see if there is something that might work for a layout. I like the idea of have a electronic machine right there at my finger tips. When I do use the sizzix it mainly for other crafts. Well, anyway, she told me that before I get rid of my sizzix that I should make cuts out of all of them with foam or sponge so that I could use them for stamping. I thought that was a great idea. Has anyone else heard of this idea and/or done it. If so what did you use, just regular foam. And also, did you mount them?

I "SECOND" that great idea and also think that the bigger ones you can cut CHIPBOARD,fabric,3-4 sheets of paper at a time, linoleum, magnets, and lots of other things the cricut can't do.. I am keeping mine till I die, cricut or no cricut.

i thought of doing that. Was thinking of using craft foam, 2 or 3 thick, since 1 thickness doesn't seem like enough.

Also - cut one of each shape, to scan and use on the new machine later.

I am thinking of selling off to buy a wishblade.

You're funny, I'm keeping mine also as it's always nice to have a variety of die cutting systems. Also, I took the picture of the die and cut it from the rest of the instruction booklet it comes with. Then I have just the pictures stacked together so I can just flip through them without having to go through the die collection. The new thin dies are great and storage isn't a problem either. Hilda

Shannon, when you decide to sell your sizzix, let me know (privately by email if you wish) which dies you have. I may be interested in some of them. Thats a good idea for using the dies to make stamps!

You can get the thicker foam from Joann's. I've cut the regular foam with the dies and glued them to the thicker foam and made stamps. Sandy

You can do that, scan and use on the electronic machines like wishblade. That's nice to know.

I haven't actually done this, but I saw on one of the cable craft shows where they used that dried up sponge material to cut the shapes, then when water is added it expands. Not sure where to get rubber type material to make stamps, though.
