Web Trolls must be working overtime.

I enjoying posting and reading messages here. But for some time I have been getting virus attached e-mails and spam. I'll say one thing they sure are persistant. From 12:00am to 12:00pm. (That's only 12 hours folks) I got 27 virus attached e-mails and 37 spams. My e-mail listed above is pretty much use only on goggle, not some of the other woodturning forums and groups. What's a guy to do. I don't want out politicians to do some thing about it. Just wish there was something goggle could do, it's their site. Most discouraging to say the least. It only takes me about 30 seconds to open and delete this junk. Thank god my ISP has protection. Yes my chain is being pulled and I don't like it. I'm on their list now for the rest of my life I guess. Wish I could return them the favor. Thanks for reading my rant. George Troy Hurlburt

Hello George,

I think they have software that sweeps the newsgroups to pick up e-mail addresses and then bombard them with spam. Here awhile back it seemed to be a virus attack of people who had posted to the Woodcentral message center. I had to discontinue my e-mail address that I had used for several years. The spam was coming in 60 to 70 messages a day. I'm getting more all of the time with the new e-mail, so I don't think there is any long range protection.

George, I use hotmail.com I set the junk mail filter to delete immediately. I get two or three spam e-mails that manage to find there way through each day. This is my main e-mail address. Before I set the junk mail filter to delete immediately, the 157Kb virus e-mail was coming in about 30 per hour! I haven't seen one since. A good spam filter and the delete key are all that are needed.

The Yahoo account I use on these Google newsgroups is currently being blocked by Yahoo because of the amount of spam that it is receiving. I can empty it and a few hours later there is 4 megabytes of spam awaiting my attention.

The easy solution to your problem is to just use one of the free Yahoo or MSN accounts for all of your newsgroup postings. If it is full of spam, just ignore it. I just delete everything once a week now, but could probably just do it once a month.

Now that your account is infected, the best thing to do is to just kill it especially if it's one you are paying for.

If you want to find out which site creates the most spam, use a different free account for each group you post in.

Or each place you purchase something!
