Michael's and Book Prices

Hi

Well yesterday I went off to a local Michaels to do some shopping. I have found a problem and wanted to let everyone know about it.

In Michael's at least the stores I've been in, the book prices on the back of the book is different (cheaper) than the price that the cash register shows. I bought a book yesterday for 21.75 Cdn and it showed $24.99 on the register. After some discussion I got it for the price on the book, as here in Ontario it's the item sticker price that is the final price not the computer system price.

This isn't the first time this has happened so I wanted to let everyone know that this is happening and to check the book price before going to the check out.

Thank you Darleen, it is always buyer beware, good for you that you corrected the sales lady.

I didn't mind when it happened the first time and it was corrected immediately by the cashier but this time it took effort to get it corrected. If the cashier wasn't going to correct it I was going to talk to the Manager and make sure I got it for the lower price.

I have noticed that a lot of the books at Michael's say one thing on the self and then a different price on the book. This started to bother me so figured I would let everyone else know about it.

My Mom is happy that I noticed the difference because sometimes it's only a couple of dollars but other times it can be 5 or 6 dollars. Gee why would I let someone get that money when I can buy more stash with it.

Hi I was in Michael's on Christmas Eve and bought some stuff (gift bags, bows, etc.). They claimed it was marked down 75%, but that was not the case at the register. I was kinda in a hurry, so I didn't bother to fight it. Maybe that is just the Michael's way!

At any rate, it is always a good idea to check your receipt before you leave ANY store.

Seems to a problem at our "Your Independent Grocer" too (a Loblaws Affiliate) and there it is a bit of a hastle to get it corrected (make you go to customer service who also sell lottery tickets and cigarettes), but they do give you the item free, up to a maximum of $10.00 for each error. The policy is posted on the main door.

A lot of places do this, intentionally or inadvertently. All of the price/scancode pairs must be entered by hand into the computer. Often the floor tags are either ahead of or behind the data entry personnel, which is the inadvertent sort of mischarge. There is one food store in the southwestern US that oftentimes intentionally doesn't maintain the pricing database and trusts that the sheep - er, customers won't notice the discrepancies. I don't shop there.

I think that most of the time it is intentionally, certainly in the big stores like Super Store (Loblaws) and Micheals. Micheals is understaffed, the clercks do not get paid very well, and I must say, the once that I ventured in to Micheals in Victoria, the customers, leave a horrible mess, items pulled of the shelves and shoved back somewhere else. (I walked in and I walked out) Add to that computer mix ups etc. I can see the mistakes being made. However you should not have a problem with getting it fixed. In our Super store in Duncan, they are very good in giving your money back for mostly all reasons, within a time limit naturally.
