ravelry anyone?

You had proof that spam came from a particular machine - you did not have proof that a particualr person spammed you deliberatly. There are plenty of viruses designed to use the machines of others to send spam. Just as your website has been compromised by people with malicious intent, so the machines of others can be similarly compromised.

Now, this is all very off topic and not the sort of thing I want to read on RCTY (and it's infiltrating multiple threads so it's a bit hard to ignore) - if anybody has further personal bickering to do can you do it by email and leave this forum for some talk about the nicer things in life.

Mirjam,

When I am holding my puppy and trying to type, I use the on-screen keyboard and my mouse. It goes about as fast as typing with one hand and causes fewer hand cramps.

My deepest sympathies. I broke my left hand (I am sort of left-handed but actually ambidextrous) 7 years ago and had to keep working one-handed, and it was a nightmare.

um, Noreen, if someone has a virus infested computer & doesn't know they have, that certainly doesn't make them a spammer. if you were getting lots of virus mail from Jan, why didn't you ask her *nicely* to get her computer checked for viruses? basicly, you *are* blaming an innocent victim of a virus for the results of that virus. lee

OK just to clear it all up with the yahoo group. I am the founder member, I took on three other people to run this group, it was at a time when we had a lot of spam and rubbish on here, and people were frightened .. anyway.. to start with it was just Nora and myself, and as it was newly started, there was no one onboard who knew how to moderate the group, whilst I was away, and that was going to happen in just six days of opening it up.. and more to the point many members were new to yahoo and getting in a fix with the odd thing, so I needed someone who knew their way around the boards to be able to untangle anyone who got stuck.

I asked Nora if she would mind if I put in another fiber friend of mine who moderates and is an owner along with myself , on other fiber related groups with me...obviously Nora didn't mind, as she was new to yahoo also, so I put her in. Then when I came back I put in Jan, who had worked hard to help make the yahoo group run properly. However, I am not the only owner, these others are set up as owners as well, not just moderators they have exactly the same info and access to all files as I have.

There is no reason at all why people on here can't join, infact we have recently accepted a new member who is great fun and a lovely fiber artist. She was known by one other member and put in on a moderated status to begin with.

Once a person has posted a couple of times this moderated status is lifted. I rarely read all messages and many members don't have messages coming into their emails, but a digest of all messages of the day in one email that can be read offline should they wish. Thus the message comes in as an ordinary email from the group, if there is alot of mail they may get two emails of headed subject lines and messages. This is easy to manage and reply to which ever message you want to...and doesn't take ages to come into your email, even if you are on dail up, which I am.

Noreen, I don't know what you mean about Jan, you told me this ages ago, but I can't see anyone with any intelligence actually bothering to go out of their way to spam or send a virus to your site or you...or anyone...and Jan certainly wouldn't be bothered with it. She has enough to do in her daily life to worry about, without adding you to it. When you told me before about it, I said I look into it if you gave me that persons name...you did..., but at the time you had said it had happened I knew Jan was on vacation, so that along with Jan's character didn't match up at all.

So I put it down to you not being asked to moderate or be an owner of the group...but how could you be asked to run the yahoo group, when I started the 6x6 up originally you opened up a google group, and for a while it was good, you housed everyones photos, etc... then when you couldn't get everyone to agree with you over something you closed the group, and members lost their prized photo's and that was the main reason I didn't ask you to moderate or co- own the group. Also when you first joined the yahoo group, you created a file asking everyone to vote as to whether Nora ought to continue doing the birthday and anniversary wishes, without even asking her first if she wanted to give it up............not on. Having three other owners as well as myself means I rarely make any decisions about anything, no point in having co-owners if I wanted to do that. We shove in idea's mainly for competitions and so on, and just do what we all think is the best idea at the time.. We do lots of competitions on there etc.. members have won a knitting machine and books and we have parties for halloween etc, to say nothing of supporting those who need our thoughts in hard times.

The yahoo group was never intended to take away from RCTY or any other group, how could it? It's just an addition if others would like to join this as well, if they don't want to they don't have to.. we haven't got a ball and chain around anyone, so it doesn't matter one way or the other.

I don't know why you keep running the group down, we don't do this to you, infact we never even think to mention you..but hey ho..such is life.

hope this clears some facts up higz Cher

Melinda, thank you for questioning her preposterous claims of receiving spam from me. For the record, my computer is well-protected and has never been infected by any malware. And I'll wager you all the yarn on your wish-list that her ISP never identified me or my computer as the source of spam.

VP, you are correct that much spam comes from compromised computers. But let me assure you that my computer has never been infected by any malware nor has it ever been the source of spam. Keep in mind that I was software professional for 30 years and know more about computers that the average user.

Cher... I've never been upset and never ever ever wanted to be asked to mod another yahell group, so my friend, your insinuation is quite mistaken. Also, I do not continually run down the yahell group, I only pipe in when someone else complains about it :D Noreen

Thanks for explaining that Donna. It doesn't take a lot to confuse me lately (lol).

I came across a lovely word the other day which says it all about confusion - "confuddled". You won't find it in any dictionary but to me it is one of those words that just sounds right! :-D
