well, that would be a fairly safe bet, because it would be nigh on impossible to trace anything to an individual, especially on a dial-up account. one can trace to a particular ISP through the IP block, but unless there's a static IP involved, that's the best one can do. no ISP is going to research who was on which IP at what times without a court order. it's way too much of a PITA. even a DSL or cable access account will have random IPs (my stupid cable switches my IPs a few times per *day*. really annoying). plus, there's nothing stopping a dial-up or cable access account from having a network attached... we have 5 computers networked to one gateway/firewall & they are frequently all online at the same time (and wasn't that a joy on dial-up!) personally, the only way i consider my computer 'safe' from malware & viruses is by parking it behind a Linux firewall. my experience with Zone Alarm is that it picks up lots of insignificant stuff, but misses real problems. and Norton's trashed my computer... lee

Well Zone Alarm's Security Suite picked up the virus I got from Noreen's blog, and it's picked up many others before that, and I'm very glad for that. The ZA security suite has a firewall, and I have it on stealth mode. I'm very happy with the product and have no complaints. However I do have a complaint with the fact that Noreen has known about this virus for quite a while and has not warned anyone to stay away from her blog, or even take it down until the problem has been cleared up. AFAIC, that's irresponsible. But I have learned my lesson, believe me.

Good explanation, Lee. As a dial-up user with a large ISP, the IP addresses for messages from my computer cover a large range. In order for anyone to associate a message with my computer, my ISP would have to search it's connection records and they surely aren't going to do that because of a piddling spam complaint. OTOH they would most certainly do it to help with a case such as that of the young woman in my area who was murdered after responding to an ad on Craig's list.

Yes, and have nearly finished the back of one for Rob. I just haven't had time to take pictures yet - not even of the blue jacket which I finished several weeks ago and have worn and washed a few times.

I keep popping in to have a look at your blog and gather that you have been busy too (lol)> Will mail you later today.

Take care :-)

yes, i had to wade through IP logons once. you'd have to pay me a LOT more than $6/hour to ever do it again. i like Noreen & i don't see why anyone here has 'issues' (except for that one incidence of plagarism...). i doubt anyone here is a spammer or stalker or anything else, and i really wish people would grow past the high school stage in life. it makes things more pleasant for *everyone* lee

no wonder you rarely post anymore. i miss seeing you, but i tried posting through Google once & it was too much effort, so i understand. i'm on ravelry as enigma (i was surprised it wasn't taken!). i post on 2 groups & read 2 others, but i don't spend a lot of time there. lee

I'll second that, after all it is supposed to be a meeting place for those interested in various crafts. Not a site for who can bitch the most, which is tiresome!

I dont think anyone on here really dislikes Noreen, it's just that if she comes on here and makes derogatory remarks about someone and names them, and about a group the person is involved with, you can't expect them to sit there and take it can you? Well maybe you can, but I along with Jan Raine and Nora run the particular group in question, and I have to defend the group and the owner named..As regarding Noreen herself, on the whole she is a well meaning person, but maybe the uncalled for outbursts and digs would really be more accepted, if they did infact, come from a child, but they dont.

Hi Donna I don't see Noreens posts either, unless like you someone answers her and they leave it clipped, it's the same for alot of people on here, however if you go in to read messages via google or other readers you can see them all, I don't go in very often and then have a shock to see I've answered someone and four or five others have also answered and given advice and I've repeated it. Cos I've not realised they have already been and got their answers... LOL

Once before someone was Pinging me, and I didn't know...lol

Don't worry about it

I can figger out what is going on by reading the un-snipped posts it's just that I was not sure it was me or everybody....I have a Verizon account and newsgroup access is the reason I have stayed with them over 5 years....they are pretty good at blocking spamm from the groups and that is also a plus.

I got it, but stupid site isn't letting me open any of the messages, so I can't read it. Good thing that's not the one I use all the time...

I don't think that is really fair to Noreen as she didn't 'name' anyone. It was Jan who was the one to put up her hand and stated that she was the one being written about and then proceeded to call Noreen a fool. I wouldn't have known who Noreen was writing about if Jan hadn't made her statement.

As a newcomer here I don't know either of them, I don't know the history and I don't even know what 'ravelry' happens to be, however it is evident to me that neither side seems to be an angel in this skirmish.
